Growing too fast.
Although I just recently received these in the “Donkey” box split, I couldn’t help but grab one this morning to try. I absolutely love the perfecto vitola, and this one is the perfect size for my taste. The wrapper is a light, golden brown with minimal veins, noticeable oil, and a couple of prominent veins as well as a slight box press in the mid section. It is firm when squeezed with a good weight in the hand, and as I clip a very small piece from the perfectly tapered head I’m able to get a decent amount of air flow through, even with the small, tapered foot.
After quickly torching the small foot, I take a few quick puffs to get the fire going and wait to take my first draw until the ash has fully formed over the largest part of the foot. My first draw brings a fairly strong white pepper spice on the tongue, the smoke itself medium to right at full strength with rich, delicious flavors of earth, cocoa, and citrus. I can tell this is going to be a very good cigar.
A quarter in and the burn, although leaning to one side slightly, is very good with a medium gray ash forming that is holding strong. Medium to full strength smoke is flowing well through the perfect draw with a medium spice on the back of the tongue. Flavors are quite rich, deliciously smooth over the palate, and I can’t seem to get enough of the incredibly lasting finish that lingers after exhaling.
Halfway in and the ash is still holding strong, forming layers with every delicious, perfect draw taken. I exhale slowly through the mouth and nose, the spice tingling the nostrils as the medium to full strength smoke escapes. Flavors are simply fantastic, rich and smooth over the palate with the finish lasting long after exhaling.
The ash finally drops off, which I was ready for, holding the ashtray under the cigar to catch it. I slid the band off the foot and finished up the final third, thoroughly enjoying every last bit of it. With sharp burn, perfect draw, and rich, delicious flavors, this is definitely one cigar I can see getting more of in the future. Excellent smoke!
