Petit Coronas vs. Mareva

Habanos SA lists both the petit corona and mareva (vitola de galeria) as exactly the same size: 42 ring by 5 1/8 inches.

For example, the Por Larranaga Petit Coronas and Bolivar Petit Coronas are listed under marevas, but are called PC's.

Some of the sticks I have seen from various marques seem to have a flattened head versus a more rounded head. I have not previously paid much attention to this and thought it may have been due to being dress boxed as opposed to cabinet varieties.

Any thoughts on why there is a distinction between a mareva and a PC?

now for the confusing part...some marevas are called a petit corona this is there "vitola de salida" or name on the box(bolivar petit coronas upmann petit coronas etc) ...they can also be called short hoyo corona or montecristo#4 or royal selection #12 or siglo 2...but they are all marevas(handrolled 5 1/8 x 42 ring cigars)

petite coronas(as a vitola de galera)are machine made 5 1/8 x 42 ring cigars..."vitolas de salida" for a few...ryj mille fleurs or partagas mille fleurs come to mind.

dvickery - I'm curious where you got the impression that PC's are machine made? I like the vitola and can assure you that there are many, many PC's that are hand rolled smokes.

Not true. Petite Coronas are not, by definition, machine made.

As mentioned, the difference is between the factory name and the common or published name.

Very common with many vitolas, e.g., the factory name for a churchill is a julieta #2.

Most if not all of the "petite coronas" are machine made, though some come in hand-made versions as well. As Derrek said, all of the Marevas are hand-made. There are obviously some cigars missing from the lists, but this is a good representation.

This seems obvious....now that you said it!!!

Looking at the Habanos SA lists for marevas and petit coronas (V.d.g.) this seems to be the case.

As someone else said, above, where/how did you arrive at this conclusion? If you tell me the "Illustrated.." by MRN, then I guess I will need to get a copy somewhere...since you have quoted this reference for me before!!

You should get one anyway. It is a great book if for nothing more than the pictures of boxes and cigars.
