Plume Mold or Alien infestation?

Well half of us (including me) say its mold (I told the guy straight up its mold or he has a couple thousand mites making webs in his Humidor) the other half say its Plume.

So he contacted Dr. Dr. Professor. (Yeah the Germans love their titles  ) So and So an Expert from the Casa del Habanos in Berlin who told him its Plume... so he is going to place them back in his Humi just as they are and to quote him "enjoy the special flavor Plume adds to cigars.

The people who claim it is "plume" are wrong; it is mold. There is zero doubt, I don't care how much of an "expert" the dumkoff thinks he is. ;)

First off these pictures are not of any of my cigars...

They are of a forum member's cigars of a German cigar forum I belong to.

I think he and the Dr. are nuts. :sign:

What sayeth you?

You know, this really rankles me, actually. It means that this idiot "expert" has never seen plume in his entire life. WTF?

No doubt that's mold. I should know, I've seen it enough in my short while smoking cigars. ;)

It is an interesting pattern to the mold. The cases I've had personal dealings with had fairly large areas of the white fuzzy mold, the pictures you've posted show a very thin film of mold over the wrapper.

I would try to find out how these were stored. The more these are/ have been handled the more mold spores will be released into the air. This means that the guy is placing a time bomb back into his humidor when he should be removing the sticks and cleaning them before he puts them into isolation.

The real problem remains. Where did the mold come from? Bad humidity/ heat or an already infected box being put inside the humidor?

I was pretty upset at a lot of the crap in that thread Andrew, and ended up washing my hands of it, one thing for sure I now have a bad opinion of the CDH in Berlin.

And Marc, after the guy told me I was wrong and that the Dr. said it wasn't mold (I don't even know if he showed him the pictures or not) I told him "I no longer care, because its not me who has to smoke them, Enjoy!".

The problem is that they will continue to spread this misinformation to their customers, who will continue to be clueless about mold/plume. It is a big deal, in that they will probably end up paying a premium to purchase moldy cigars off of the store's shelves.

Sad, really. I don't know if it'll help, but you could post this link: If it is white, it is plume? NOT...

Well the guy at my German forum is a guy... maybe he had his wife hold the cigar and / or take the pictures. Or he is a politician who has nice feminine hands from not having to work for a living :sign:

I put the pictures up here:

Can you ask the person who took the photos if that's okay with them?

I added the link to your website and asked him for permission, I'll let you know what he says when he answers me.
