Bonfire Smoke
Bonfire Smoke
Yeah, Yeah, I know, stay away from Thompson. Well I have them and I am going to smoke them or let my "friends" smoke them. I got these for my 50th birthday when my wife ordered them with custom bands on them. I always say "Freedom is Never Free" and that is what she had put on them. They came with a nice little customized humidor as well. The humidor has maintained 70% ever since I seasoned it. This if my first review and I decided to do it on a not so desired stick.
Okay, on to the smoke. As mentioned this was a belicoso, 6.5x52, Dominican binder and filler with a dark sumatra wrapper. These have been in the humidor for over 40 days. I also placed a small bag of my favorite pipe tobaco blend in with them. Upon removing from the humidor the stick was soft, but not spongey. The wrapper was in very good condition with no large viens and it had a slightly oily sheen to it. I cut the tip and took a draw. It was easy, but there was no distinct flavor other than a nice tobaco taste. The stick lit easily and the first draws produced a cool, mellow smoke. Lots of white smoke. The taste of the stick and the smoke were okay. I could not pick up on any specific flavors. The ash held well. I think the wind had more to do with it coming off when it did than the cigar itself.
About half way through I began to taste a little spicey taste on the pepper side. It had a very good burn and it was fairly even all the way down. A windy night could have attributed to some of the small runs, but all in all, it stayed even. The draw was easy all the way to the end and it produced a lot of cool white smoke with every draw. At the end it began to warm up a little, but still no specific flavors other than the slight pepper. My untrained pallet may not have picked up on flavors that were there. As you can see, I smoked it pretty much to the end. Also as you can see I like to chew on my cigars. I enjoy the flavor that comes from the actual tobaco itself.
In summary, it was not bad. I can't say the pipe tobaco helped or added anything because I never actually picked up on that flavor. I am sure it did not hurt either. I can not say I would ever purchase this stick, but I am surely not trashing them. It is a good smoke when I really don't feel like lighting up a premium. I guess in the case of this stick, POS stands for Plain Ole Smoke.
