Does anyone know anything about Pre Castro’s being sold through Neiman Marcus? I’ve been told that Neiman’s sells Pre Castro’s but the whole thing sounds suspect.

Suspicion #1: Apparently they’re readily available. The Neiman rep claims to regularly supply them to cigar parties, 120 sticks at time for $25 a piece. There just can’t be that many genuine hand rolled left.

Suspicion #2: I was told I could find them on Neiman’s website but there is no reference to them whatsoever. So far, the only way to procure these cigars is through the Neiman’s employee.

This person is trying to offer these to the shop I’m working at. If they’re genuine, that would be great but I have serious concerns.

The thing is, the owners are brand new to cigars and I'm afraid that they're buying into this thing. I've expressed my concerns but unless I can give them facts to show that these are not what they think they are, they'll appreciate my concerns as they place an order for a case of suspect cigars.

Who ever is hurting Nieman's image selling fake 'pre-embargo' Cubans either through their store front or just through association with the company should be reported to someone else at Nieman. In all fairness, whether this guy gets busted or not, Nieman's image is tarnished to no fault of their own. Especially considering that a lot of high end clothing is also counterfeited and sold through say, Ebay.

Sometimes, though, I hear there's some guy named 'Tony' who works at the Prada factory in Italy, and he supplies me with real, authentic Prada clothing for cheap, he gets them off the floor when the workday's done. It's real stuff too, anyone want a PM?

ThankYouForNotSmoking, thank you for not posting. Oh wait, you went ahead and posted anyway didn't you. TYFNP, the purpose of this thread was to gain and disseminate information, not irrelevant and pointless speculation. If you must post, please post substance.

Ok, here’s the deal. These are in point of fact "Pre Castro '58 Cuban Cigars". They are available exclusively through Neiman Marcus. It seems the employee was trying to make arrangements for our store to buy and resell these cigars not knowing that there is an exclusive agreement.

That's the official party line, anyway.

The real deal is this. The BRAND is "Pre Castro '58 Cuban Cigars". They are rolled in DR with an Ecuadorian wrapper/binder and the filler is the fabled New Jersey found 1958 crop of Cuban tobacco imported in 1959 and held up in probate for yada....yada...yada.

I finally got my hands on one these last night. They were packaged in a $75 box of 3. The band reads "Pre Castro '58 Cuban Cigars" with Dominican Republic on the side but the legend that explains the actual countries of origin is conveniently attached to the boxes outer cellophane seal and comes off when the cello is removed. They can say that everything is clearly stated but the reality is that it's designed to be misleading in every way.

I smoked it and yes it's akin to a rebanded Pinar. 'Nuff said, this is just wrong all the way around. As Shakespeare said "a PINAR by any other name is still worth about a buck" (or something like that).

BTW TYFNP, I hope you can see that Neiman Marcus is well aware of what they are doing. It is wrong but not illegal. There's no point in reporting anything to anyone except the members of this board who might otherwise purchase these cigars.
