I know there is a thread about proper cigar aging, but I just can seem to find it (did a search). Could someone link me up to a thread.

Just worried that I'm not aging my sticks properly. Used to have them in 70% rh, but mold seems to creep in. I now have them resting in 65-68% rh. Previously lost a 3/4ths of a box of Anejo 50s to the furry death. I hurriedly smoked the survivors. The temperature range is also around 70-89 degrees (mostly in the mid 80s).

Aging takes time...as does searching. I don't use the search at the top of the site's page, I can never find ANYTHING. I use the Google search at the bottom of the page. You've been informed now, okay mang?

Now that it's all done for ya, have fun reading! Like I said, use the "Google" search at the bottom, much more efficient IMO. You've been warned. :p

70-90 sucks and sucks bad. That there will get you some seriously accelerated aging.

Wilkey

Yes it will. The beetle eggs will age quickly into beetle larvae and the larvae will age into beetles while munching feverishly into your cigars.

Also, were the Anejos the only cigars with which you had mold problems? The last couple of years have been plagued with mold issues, so it may not have been your humidity at all. Although, at temps like that it could definitely be a concern.

Thanks souldog24ca. Nice picture,

Sorry, I didn't ask the correct question. I did read those threads before starting this one- trust me, I did put in the time. From reading those posts, I became more confused. Theres 'storing' and 'aging.'

Noticed that some like to store @ 60-65 and some like to age @ 65-70. If I keep them @ 65, will they loose their oils and become lifeless hunks of tobacco? I have read some information out there saying that aging is done only @ 70% rh, but when I read posts here, I got sometimes 65, some 68 and then 70. Trying to get something more concrete than smoke.

From what time period is it considered storage and aging? I don't have problems w/ beetles as I try and isolate the new sticks from the 'main stock' for about a month.

I know, from other forums, that noob questions can get a bid tiresome. So if possible, could there be a sticky in the noob section?

Sorry, I'm ready for the ripping.

Crap, I was in the middle of writing that last post when you guys posted.

Ginseng- noticed you were very technical w/ your hygrometer calibrations, and don't plan on getting my humis above 70, ANYMORE!

LilBastage- No, there were some other gars that did get the mold, though the anejo's were hit harder than anyother.

If you cannot keep the temperature down you will not have to worry much about aging or storing your smokes. You will sooner or later have a beetle party in your humidor and your smokes will be ruined. Listen to the guys who have been here they have a lot more knowledge than we do.

Best Regards
Don

Thanks.

Guess I'll just keep everything at 65-68%. Tastes and burns much better at that rh anyways.

After the home renovations are complete, I'll be investing in a wine chillador.
