Quicktime and Apple.com

Alright, so the computer told me I need to "update" quicktime today and I did. Well now nothing flash will load. I get an image of the Quicktime "Q" with a ? mark on top of it.

Anyone know how to get rid of this... And I've checked the settings, it should only load quicktime movies, so I don't know why it's blocking flash.

Are you doing this at work? If so, they may have rules set in their firewall to block this type of traffic.

Where I work, all of our outbound traffic has to go through a proxy server. Although Quicktime allows you tunnel through the proxy, I still can't seem to get this to work.... Haven't tried very hard either though...

If you can't stream the file, I suppose you can always download the complete file and view it through the player.

I have had nothing but problems with quicktime w/ i tunes package.

This is on a windows 2000 pro environment.3 times I have tried to install this is crashed my system. It would not boot up. And yes I tried everything under the sun.

SO i used th alternative to view my quicktime movie trailers.

I hate Quicktime even more than Real - both are parasitic and system destroying programs. If you need to look at either of those types of files, get Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative - great programs that don't crash, hog system resources, overtake preferences, etc.

I don't use RealPlayer at all, and I hardly use quicktime. I tried unstalling it, and all the computer did was ask me to re-install it to view flash documents.

Oh no...I hate "Real" lots, lots worse than QuickTime..... Won't even install the "Real" crap on my machine(s).

One thing with QuickTime is to be sure the UNSELECT EVERYTHING when it comes to file associations and only select the Qt movie files.

There have been a couple of flash updates lately....maybe to fix compatibility issues with Qt..?? Who knows.... Quick thing to try would be to re-load Macromedia Flash....can't hurt....

Real is muuuuuuuch worse... installs all sorts of nasty spyware-esque and adware on your computer. Blech.

Quicktime doesn't bother me at all, only I make sure the first thing I do after installing it is to rename qtask.exe into qtask.xxx so it no longer starts when I start my computer. I also remove the registry entry for it.

KB have you tried going to the Macromedia website and reinstalling flash? That might fix your problem.

I wouldn't load quicktime or REalanything on my PC. Both of these are buggy and hard as hell to get rid of.

KB, reinstall Flash on your PC. That should fix it. www.flash.com (redirects you to macromedia's website).

EDIT: Ok you tried that. I would uninstall quicktime, and then reinstall flash again.

Are you by chance using Firefox? If so, this is a known issue and there are some work arounds in that thread. Hope this helps...

Wurm,

That is a good idea with QT. When I worked at Apple I hated doing support on QT for Windows. There is so many things that could be going on in Windows. I wish they had not even made it. The user base for QT Pro is so small, that it is not even an accepted multimedia editor.
