Having been lucky enough to listen to Trout Mask Replica and Safe as Milk (among others) when they came out you can see how Don influenced a number of bands that followed. Truly a misunderstood giant in modern music..

[Not A Nice Person]

One of my favorite memories of him is his appearance on the old Arsenio Hall show . . . Arsenio's trying to be all hipster, right? And Beefheart's already DEEP into his trailer in the desert hermitage/experimental music thing and sings "Making Love To A Vampire With A Monkey On My Knee" and then launches into some kind of spaced out squealing . . .

Arsenio freaks out, totally loses it, and goes to commercials . . . :laugh:
