R.I.P. Darren McGavin

Didn't see that this had already been posted. If so, oh well.
Sad to see that he passed away the same weekend as another great, Don Knotts (saw that thread already). Darren McGavin will be missed as well. Can't tell you how many times I've seen "A Christmas Story" and appreciated his role as dear old dad...

Greetings! I first remember watching Darren McGavin perform on the old "Riverboat" television series. I enjoyed watching him on his other television shows, and in his movies. I guess that you could say that I kind of "grew up" watching Darren McGavin. Mr. McGavin will be missed. Regards, knightlaird

I was named after him (first name, that is). I too loved his roles, ESPECIALLY as Kolchak in The Night Stalker (man, I loved that show when I was a kid!!!).

A Christmas Story is my favorite holiday movie to watch.

I watched the new Night Stalker series and I thought it was not well done. Too much X-Files and not enough classic kind of Kolchak.

I loved Mr. McGavin in "A Christmas Story". This is one of my top 10 movies of all time let alone my favorite Christmas movie. The dad is the best character in the film.

Wurm, my man, you took the words right out of my mouth!!! I loved that episode, easily one of my favorite. Second favorite is the episode with the zombie; as Kolchak is sewing the zombies mouth shut, its eyes open up and the look on Kolchak's face was priceless!

I heard that he has been in bad shape for a few years now. At least he is in a better place now.

It always drove my wife nuts every Christmas when I want to watch "A Christmas Story" over and over on TNT especially since I own the movie.

Darren you will be truely missed.

It was after that episode my mom wouldn't let me watch it anymore, due to the nightmares I had, lol I was only 10 at the time.

Another show that freaked me out as a kid was the Space 1999 were the guy gets sucked into the tentacle monster and then gets shot back out as a dried up smoking corpse.
