Reagan/Remington Humidor Setup Experience

Recently I found a great deal locally on two of these double-sided "Reagan" model humidor cabinets by Prestige Imports that were bought new in 2022, and I am finally getting them dialed in. I thought I would share my experience here so that anyone else with these units (such as the more common single sided "Remington" units) may be able to benefit from my experience since there seems to be very limited info available online. I have this one set up in my office with many of my personal favorites, almost exclusively Fuente/Opus X except for Atabey Black Ritos, Julius Caesar Et tu Brute sharks and Cuaba Salamon.

I have found that dialing in the temperature and humidity on these units is quite unusual in that there is only one calibration adjustment available, and it is supposedly only to calibrate the humidity display value. You have to adjust the humidity calibration screw on the little humidity control board, but strangely not too finely because I have learned if you get it too close to accurate the temperature in the cabinets will simply drop to the 40s and the compressor won't kick off! Apparently, it doesn't want the calibration to be too exact, more like within a few percent at best. The temperature settings do not seem to have much of an effect at all, mostly humidity based compressor cooling is what it seems to me. I have managed to make enough adjustments to get them to where they will keep temperatures in the '60s now, which is all I really wanted from these cabinets living in south Florida. The temp and humidity swings in these units are larger according to my Govee charts than I have experienced in the smaller Liebherr and Newair cooling humidors that I have been using up until now.

I am relying 100% on 320g Boveda 65% packs for humidity because I believe that I can trust the Boveda packs to keep humidity most consistant. I haven't quite figured out how or why the humidity swings range well up into the '70s and down into the upper 50's, but I imagine it's just the compressor kicking on and off and fighting the humidity in the Boveda packs, although my other compressor humidors don't have nearly as big of swings and they are also using Boveda packs. I realize it's more about the average humidity which is about where I prefer, and I do keep 65% Boveda packs in most boxes that are not sealed so that should keep the cigars stable through the larger swings in the cabinets. I have small A/C Infinity USB fans on in each unit to facilitate good circulation, and I am currently experimenting with low, medium or high speeds to see what works best over time.

We'll see, but so far so good!
