Is it me or does the new batch of Opus just not seem up to par. I have smoked a Power Ranger and a #4 they don't just seem to have the spunk of other Opus. The Ranger I did smoke also made me sick to my stomach, thats the first time this has ever happened and on a good night I will smoke 5-10 cigars with no ill effects.

It could also be they are a little on the wet side. I added three boxes to my humi and the humidity has jumped up to 70%. I don't know if the higher humidity will have that drastic of an effect on em. Who knows I will let em sit for a few months and revisit them.

Anybody have this issue?
Shane

I havent had one that has made me sick, but I have noticed some lighter wrappers (compared to others) than before. I hope they "come around" for ya Shane..

I smoked some recent #5 that made the Power Ranger seem like childs play. They had one hell of a kick and I generally find the #5 to be extremely mild. Glad to see I am not the only one that have found issues with the recent batch.

.....darn hard to say, Shooter - probably better send me half a dozen or so to test out for ya..... :sign:

Cheers - B.B.S.

moki, paging Dr. moki....

I've no information to add... except that every year, someone seems to question "This year's batch of Opus" in terms of the quality, power, etc. Thus far it has always ended up as just isolated incidents well within the margin for error of a hand-made product, or it has been storage issues.

They produce a few hundred thousand Opus a year... hard to judge an entire year's production from a handful of cigars.

So beyond that generality... no clue. I've actually yet to smoke a 2007 Opus.

I was gifted what was presumed to be a 2007 Opus when I was out in Vegas for the De La Hoya fight. Seemed to have no problems for me at all. Other than that, all of my Opus that I've acquired myself (excluding any of those gifted to me) in my humi are, at a minimum, from approx. 2003.

Isn't there another delivery coming sometime soon? Anyone know when it is?

Father's Day is coming up...that's been a quasi-benchmark in the past for various A. Fuente releases.

Yup, that's the way things work. I think Father's Day is the 17th this year so I would imagine that they'll start showing up some two weeks before hand.

I have some recent (2007) Double Coronas, Robustos, Petit Lanceros, and As that do not have the same pre-light smell as my late 2005-early 2006 sticks. The aromas seem a bit muted, less sweet IMO. And I do not believe this is an issue of age, but rather crop year. 2007 DCs and Robustos are noticably stronger than the 2005-2006, but have less fruity character to them. Personally, I prefer the late 2005-early 2006 batch.

For what it's worth, they don't use tobacco all from one year for Opus cigars. They have a number of crop years stashed away, and blend it all together to make the actual cigars. So you'll get a mix of tobacco, generally at least 4-5 years old (though some older) making up the cigar.
