Reusing Cardboard Mailing Boxes

That is just ridiculous!

If the boxes are free for customers who pay for priority mail, that tells me that the box was paid for when postage was paid. Hence, no longer the property of the USPS!

Reiter said the boxes are a cost to the Postal Service and it supplies them for free to customers who pay for priority or express mail. She said enforcing the no-recycling rule would keeps postal rates low for everyone.

If I use a box twice, the USPS is actually SAVING money. How can the above statement be true??

I can see the argument if I were to use a NEW box to ship via Fedex or UPS

I thing the problem was that the person who reused the boxes used them to send something First Class mail. You can only use the PM boxes for PM, but you can reuse them as long as they are reused for PM

they don't seem to mind you using regular boxes plastered with priority stickers for priority mail.
IMO after it's used once, it's paid for and you should be able to do anything you want with it.
