Reverse Osmosis Units

Straight outta the well into the house. It's good water too so I guess I'm lucky.
 
I very seriously doubt you have any "chemicals" besides the ones that are NSF approved to treat the source water before it's delivered to you. Call your water supplier and ask to see their CCR (Consumer Confidence Report). It will have a list of all required tests performed and if any MCL's (Maximum Contamination Limits)were exceeded.

If the mere fact that these could be there at some point scare you, then an RO is about the only treatment method that will remove them all.
 
I pick up 2 units from a filter place on Ebay. Very happy with the units.

One for the last house and one when we moved in here. The ROs were easy to install and the seller answered all the questions I had. They also sell the replacment cartridges.

Reminds me, it's getting close to the time to change out the cartridges.

That's basically the type I was referring to. Can you please explain things like maintenance, pros, cons, water taste etc...?
 
I installed a Watts 5 stage system under sink that was purchased at Sam's club. Very good reports. Reject water is 4:1. The taste is outstanding. After drinking this water any other just isn't as good. Not even bottled water. Filters run $40 year, this includes a carbon block that removes chlorine and odor. The taste makes it worth as I don't drink near the soda or tea that I used to and the coffee is much better tasting.

Also the fact on the "corrosive" is that without ions in the the water it will collect any free ions from the pipes (copper, galvanized or Iron), the kit will come with polyvinly ??? which eliminates this problem.

Maintenance is replacing the cartridges.

Water taste is great. I won't drink the tap water because of the taste.

My wife buys cases of bottled water at Sam's Club. I'll refill my bottles from the R.O. unit and can't tell the difference.

All cooking water is passed through this system.

I also use the water from the R.O. unit to top off the aquarium.
 
After doing some more reading I have developed some additional questions. From what I understand so far, soft water(without minerals) is good for the pipes, cleaning, showering, etc but not healthy to drink as compared to hard water(with minerals). Do these RO units work so well that they remove all of the minerals and completely soften the water or is there adequate minerals present to continue to be healthy to drink? Thanks
 
It will remove all minerals. Though any in the water would be trace amounts. Most needs will be met with a multi-mineral supplement. However our dentist recommended using a mouthwash such as "restore" to add flouride and minerals back for your teeth. However occasional rinsing is all you need, as well as you will get it from drinking fountains, soda machines, etc.

Maintence amounts to a 30 minute chore twice a year to change filters.
