I'm curious to know what people think of the reviews and rankings at this site:

http://www.cigars-review.org/topcigars.htm

Are these generally reliable reviews, if someone was looking for the best cigars they could find (with reasonable ease)?

Any cigars that should absolutely be on that list, but aren't for some reason?

Thanks,
Mike

Upon a quick glance, it looks like a listing of Cubans only. That leaves out a LOT of good cigars.

I'd put more credence on the reviews done here. YMMV

I think yes, no, maybe.. Tastes are too subjective and there so many variables in the way each individual stores their smokes.. Will you taste the nutmeg? Maybe, maybe not.. I think they are more fun too read, well the reviews here that is.

Thats for ISOM's only. And yes, some of those reviews are spot on. No question about it. But those reviews can only relate if that is the experience I've had. Like any review, its subjective and only way for you to judge is by trying it yourself. But from my experiences, they work nicely. I prefer CP naturally.

They are a very good source of info on ISOM's. I take their reviews with a grain of salt, as you should with all reviews. Having said that, more often than not, I find their reviews on the money, for the most part.

Just like any news or information, you really need to get your information from several sources and make up your own mind. In that context, IMHO they are one very good source to add to the mix.

It is the site I recommend the most by far to people who have zero experience with a particular Habano and are soliciting the generic, "What do ya'll think of xxxxx cigars?" kinda questions. I prefer it for the casual enthusiast 'cause it is rife with opinions of other casual enthusiasts and is thus more in line with my own inventory and smoking habits than the let this cigar box age for 4 decades before opening MRN (Min Ron Nee) book kinda responses. That's just unreasonable advice for the great majority of cigar enthusiasts.

But it really is grain of salt opinions at best. To me, reviews don't mean jack unless you know the general taste preferences of the respective reviewer. It tremendously helps to know their particular preferences and abilities to discern and describe various nuances. I'd strongly suggest paying close attention to a couple of guys who regularly post cigar reviews. If you keenly follow and generally agree with a certain person's cigar reviews, and he opines some (untried by you) cigar tastes like rancid ape turd, that opinion should carry more weight with you than that of some random stranger's (whose opinion shouldn't be entirely discounted for lack of familiarity). Also, if you surmise some guy obviously can't denote taste descriptions worth a damn and only sticks to the basic spicey/earthy/woodsy/Aqua Velvet musky kinda descriptors - but then suddenly pulls some weirdo like kosher pickle brine outta his bag of tricks, then I'd expect that cigar to taste like a vinegary salt lick to have made such a strong impression on him.
