You know all those ridiculously famous guitars that would get auctioned off for ridiculous amounts of money? Jim Irsay bought many, MANY of them. He wasn't a "closet collector", though; those nearly-priceless instruments would be played regularly and often loaned out to other famous musicians to play on stage (John Mayer got to play a bunch of them). Jim would also regularly let them on loan to museums and other exhibits where people could still see them -- they weren't just stored away in a hermetically sealed room for the rest of eternity. Despite any personal shortcomings, he was looked highly upon in the guitar community.
