Are there any LOTL that live in Houston? My wife and I want to go to the RTDA and we are interested in knowing wht to do. Forget golf and strip clubs. We are interested in various exhibts such as the Space Center. Is the $80.00 tour worth it? Does any one have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for the info.

When it is I live in Houston, next to Rice College. I have never been to the space center, but they have some cool museums around here.

There is so much to do in the Houston Area. I wouldn't go to the Space Center, but i lived across the street from it for 5 years. I would venture out of Houston to find things to do. The Kemah Boardwalk is great, lots of food and live music venues. You can also go down into Galveston and visit some of the historic homes and Bishop's Palace, as well as the Seawall and the beach. There is also a ferry in Galveston that takes you across Galveston Bay. If you are going to stay in Houston proper, then I would head to the Herman Park complex. There is the Zoo as well as several museums.

Hope this Helps

Depends on what you like to do. Of course age has a lot to do with the suggestions. If you like food we have some great places to indulge. I'm going to assume you will be renting a car? You can not get around Houston without one. If you want to send me a PM with some info on your likes I'd be glad to try and give you a few pointers.

Before I moved here I lived across the Indian River from Cape Canaveral and visited the Kennedy Space Center every time someone came to visit from out of town. Needless to say once I moved out here, I'm about 10 miles from JSC, I didn't have the desire to visit the Johnson Space Center and for some strange reason still haven't. Can't give you first hand knowlege about the Johnson space tour but have had a friend take it. He enjoyd it and said it was worth it to him but his wife was bored silly..... which didn't surprise me as she would rather be at a shopping mall. If you have an interest in the space program I'm sure it will have some value. You will go into places the other tours will not take you but for the most part its walk through and viewing areas. The best part about it is knowlegable tour guide, no waiting in lines, small group, lunch included, and the tour is geared toward adults. The other tours you take your chances of having 25 kids on a tram with you. :whistling:

BTW, I wouldn't mind going to the RTDA.... can anyone get me a pass?

I second the notion that you NEED a car to do anything in Houston.

I grew up North of Houston and now live South of Houston.
My work takes me over to JSC all the time and the tour is nothing special really. You get a look into mission control (its exactly the same as what is on TV) and see a few mockups. The tour at KSC is MUCH cooler. Space Center Houston is a waste of space unless you are 10 years old.

The zoo is awesome, especially since a private company bought it and refurbished everything. The Houston Museum of Natural Science is fantastic (www.hmns.org), as is the Museum of Fine Arts (www.mfah.org). Take a look at their websites and see what exhibits are going on when you are in town. You can get to the museum district and the Hermann park area via the lightrail train that runs down Main St.

I live south of Houston in Clear Lake and the Kemah boardwalk is always a good time.

Since you are going to be downtown anyways, you can take a tour of Minute Maid Park (Astros play there). The field is right next to the GRB convention center. I've taken this tour like 20 times (though you may not be as fanatical as I am). When the 'Stros aren't there they do tours a few times a day.

As far as night life, there are a bunch of places downtown, near Main St.
The Rice Village is a huge college kid hangout and is normally a great time.

I'd LOVE to get into the RTDA but no such luck getting a pass so far :(

The space center is cool, but honestly the $80 price tag isn't really worth it. I didn't think it cost me that much the last time i went... I think I only spent 10 bucks to get in?? Its really cool at the 10 dollar price. just my two cents.

Let me know if you guys are getting together for a smoke, i would love to meet some of you FOG's. I will be moving today so I will need a nice smoke and drink tonight!
