This one's tough. I've been a fan since Music from Big Pink. http://www.levonhelm.com/ More than any other rock group, The Band, was mostly responsible for my getting away from the usual hum-drum rock and roll.

"The Weight" is a favorite Karoke tune. Definate influence on my musical taste. I wish him peace on his final journey.

That's a darned shame. The Last Waltz is one of my favorite "movies" of all time.

Damn, Dirt Farmer was pure Americana. No forgetting his voice one you heard it. RIP Mr. Helm.

Yea..saw that yesterday as well.

I had the chance to see him a couple times in the last 2-3 years.

Most recent was at a Ramble last year...with his Band and special guest Bob Weir. Oh yea, Bruce Hornsby played and sat in some too!

It was pretty cool to see the man upclose and personal in such a setting...he loves what he does and it showed. Not only in his music but in his style!

I wish him well on his journey.

Thats a shame...

I remember a few years ago being an amazing year for me music wise. The highlight came to me when
myself, cousin, and two best friends headed to Hunter Mt. for the annual music festival "Mountain Jam" near Woodstock, NY.
Great experience, and was our third time going. This festival in '08 was special because it was his 70th birthday that weekend. After a long day of music, drinking, and mind altering drugs, we decided to head back to "basecamp" (people used the ski mountain trails as camp sites- insane time) and fire up some......food. It was getting late at that point. Id say it was right around midnight...

Suddenly, through the trees and masses, we heard an amazing roar of people cheering. It was The Band, and they started with "The Weight". It echoed through the mountain range. I will never forget that day/ moment. Perfect situation, perfect song. They must have jammed for hrs it felt like. In fact, when I hear that song to date, my mind and senses bring me back to that mountain to that point in time and it always brings a smile to my face. R.I.P Levon. You will be missed by many...

Just got word that Levon Helm passed away at 1330 today. It's a sad day. RIP
