Saddam has thirty days till he meets his executioner, by iraqi law he must be hung thirty days from his day of sentencing. Everyone should be wondering what the reaction on the street will be. Hope the troops are prepared for the violence in the street that is to come! Say a prayer for the good guys!

Heard about it few hours ago, it was kind of "expected shock", because I was 80% sure it will happend but never really believed it. And just like Sack wrote - I also hope that trops are prepared that its going to be hot.

This is good news here and is being treated as such.

The troops will be prepared, no doubt.

Finally, Justice prevails...... :)

Here is the full story and link for those that have not read about it yet:

Saddam Sentenced to DeathAssociated Press | November 05, 2006
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Saddam Hussein and two other men were convicted and sentenced Sunday to death by hanging for war crimes in the 1982 killings of 148 people in the town of Dujail, as the former leader, trembling, shouted "God is great!"

After the verdict was read, Saddam yelled out, "Long live the people and death to their enemies. Long live the glorious nation, and death to its enemies!"

Clashes immediately broke out in north Baghdad's heavily Sunni Azamiyah district.

Saddam initially refused the chief judge's order to rise; two bailiffs lifted the ousted ruler to his feet and he remained standing through the sentencing.

Before the hearing began, one of Saddam's lawyers, former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, was ejected from the courtroom after handing the judge a memorandum in which he called the trial a travesty.

Chief Judge Raouf Abdul-Rahman pointed to Clark and said in English, "Get out."

In addition to the former Iraqi dictator and Barzan Ibrahim, his former intelligence chief and half brother, the Iraqi High Tribunal convicted and sentenced Awad Hamed al-Bandar, the head of Iraq's former Revolutionary Court, to death by hanging. Iraq's former Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan was convicted of premeditated murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Three other co-defendants were convicted of murder and torture and sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.

One defendant was acquitted for lack of evidence.

OUTSTANDING!!!

Saddam has thirty days till he meets his executioner, by iraqi law he must be hung thirty days from his day of sentencing.

The news reports say 30 days from the day the appellate court affirms the sentence, not from the day of his court sentence.

Saddam's sentence has automatically moved to the appeals process which has no time constraint.

In any event, it's a good first step.

When I first heard about this this morning, I was surprised to hear he was going to be hung...I thought for sure he would be paying a visit to "chop-chop square", as they call it in Saudi.

He wanted to be sentenced to a firing squad, an honorable way for a military man to die. He's being hung to embarrass him.

Doc.

I'm sure they will be but you get home soon. Keep your head down and your spirits high, Tobacco Road is planning a welcome home herf for you and the rest of the 589th.

I don't see how this is "political" at all. This guy is a murderous bastard who killed hundreds of thousands of his own people, he was found guilty in a court of law and hanging this prick is the least that can be done.

Amen to that! Oh wait, that's religious, nevermind...

Hopefully it will be a short rope. Finally some good news from the Iraq front.

Best of luck and keep safe Brickhouse, and the same to your comrades.
