I just found out that I am selected to go to the international Biotech convention this summer. I am so stoked! (My nephews call me a science geek)

I have no idea how much I can get away from the hotel (booked by program director, I'm not sure which one yet)

However I am looking for choices in the area or short taxi (peditaxi?) away.

Also, last time I was there, just walking around in the Gaslamp District, you're sure to find lots of places to eat. There's a neat car museum in that area too.

I don't really get out of the Gaslamp ... so you'd have to get input from others for the areas around La Jolla & Miramar and so on.
 
You're going to have a blast here. San Diego is one of the nicest places on the mainland US. June's a great month to be here! We have the US Open the second week of June at Torrey Pines golf course in La Jolla, and on June 19th there's going to be a huge herf event at Viejas Casino which is 30 minutes east of San Diego. We should meetup while you are out here and burn one down. There's a cool cigar lounge in the Gaslamp Quarter which is a few blocks from the Convention Center. Let me know.
