I am a fan of the Sancho Panza Double Maduro, but I now like a more full bodied cigar. I'm thinking of ordering a box of the Xtra Fuerte's, but have a question. Is this cigar as smooth as the Dbl. Maduro and with the same basic flavor, only fuller bodied?

although I like the Extra Fuerte just fine (even though it is totally different from the DM) I didn't really get much EXTRA nor much FUERTE with mine.

I like them. I would not describe them as smooth. The Cadiz is the best of the bunch in my opinion.

Doc.

If you are looking for something stronger, try an Indain Tabac Super Fuerte. Decent kick and a low price tag.

You think so? I really liked them early on, but the IT's seem pretty blah to me now. Plus, many of them just don't burn right. The Extra Fuertes aren't powerhouses, but they're fairly strong in my book.

And I'm with Devil Doc here.....the Cadiz, at $58/box, is a steal.

www.seriouscigar.com has them in singles. They used to have a really good sampler, but I don't see it any more. Their prices aren't the best on these, but at least it will give you a chance to try them first.

Hey, what else is a trailer trash cigar smoker supposed to enjoy? :p

I am a fan of all the Sancho Panzas. My only warning is the boxes on the newer blends suck. Very stinky paint I didn't want to put in with my other boxes.

Of course, you can put them in other boxes easily enough. The original blend has really cool dress boxes, on the other hand! Solid cedar with sheets in between the layers.

The IT SF boxes are designed to facilitate aging. Same as above but with a gap between the lids to allow moisture(and some gas)exchange. It still seals against the side cedar, though.

Notice the 1/4 inch gap. The interior cedar sides prevent direct exchange but allow moisture and some gas exchange. Pretty cool! :D

One other caveat. Most smokers agree the Toro Maduro is better than the other vitolas. While this is subjective, it is nearly universal. I have seen them go for $31 on cbid!

I have aged the Sancho Panza SFs for six months and I thought it improved the flavor. Once again, subjective. ;) They have a little bite that aging reduces somewhat.

I've done pretty much the same thing.

I am also a big fan of the Sancho Panza Double Maduro, particularly the Cervantes and Escudero. Really good cigars at a reasonable price. I have been experimenting with more robust and fuller bodied cigars and picked up a box of Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte Madrid's. I had my first one with morning coffee. Prelight I got a charred hickory and leather aroma. These aromas were joined by a caramel note, which became more intense after lighting. First few draws had flavors of the hickory with caramel, toffee with a sweet leather edge to it. As the cigar got past the first inch the hickory dropped out and the caramel, toffee, and sweet leather flavors remained conveyed in a powerful rich smoke that was very smooth. I finished the cigar and pot of coffee having really enjoyed the complexity of the cigar. The Extra Fuerte is nothing like the Double Maduro, but if you like Rocky Patel's Edge or Oliva's El Cobre then you will like ths cigar. I suggest strong coffee or espresso as a companion. I hope you enjoy it.
