Is Savinelli a good brand? I'm looking to add couple of more pipes to my collection soon. I'm willing to spend around $100 or so on a good pipe. Savinelli and Peterson are really the only two brands I've heard of.

Savinelli are well thought of by many. I don't personally own one, but I would if the right pipe caught my eye.
Some other brands to consider (I've owned and smoked pipes from these):
Boswell
Stanwell
Danbark (available at Frenchy's)
Don Carlos
Nording
The aforementioned Peterson
There are others, but these are my favorites that have quality pipes below, at, or a little above (the Danbarks run up to about $150) your stated range.

I would never advise anyone to purchase a Peterson. If you're willing to spend a C-note, get a Danbark. Besides, Frenchy is a nice guy, a hell of a character and perhaps you could get him to contribute here.

I have a Savinelli antique shell briar. It was my first pipe and I've only smoked aromatics out of it, but I love it. Smokes nicely, has a great weight to it, easy to clean.
Looking to purchase my next pipe in the next week or so. Maybe 2 if I can swing it. Looking to get a Boswell and a Danbark.

alan, how would you say the danbarks compare to your boswells?
I don't mind my peterson for the price I paid, but I kind of agree that the drilled hole seems less than perfect. I grab for my boswells usually.

My two Danbarks are among the best made pipes I've seen. The fit and finish are remarkable, especially when one considers the cost. The two I have rival some artisan pipes I've seen in the $500+ range. I would put them above the Boswell as far as the quality of the work, but they're about the same when it comes to smoking quality. They're both great.

They have a rustic quality that is very attractive. They are GREAT pipes that rival anything in their price range and many above it. Danbarks are kind of the same, just the next level up in my opinion.
