My birthday is coming up next month and I've decided to buy myself my first bottle. I've never had it before, but I figure it's time to step up. The liquor store where I do security part-time has a nice selection. I don't think I could really go wrong with whatever I bought, but I'm assuming there are some that are more ideal than others when getting into this.

Thanks in advance,

You didn't say what your budget was but you can start by knowing that search is your friend. Search this forum for keyword "beginner"

my favorite scotch so far is Speyside 12 year old single malt. It's very mild. I've had many scotches and some just didn't do anything for me, but I guess thats good as my tastebuds may mature so I might enjoy them later in life. Laphroaig is def an acquired taste.

the speyside is like $25-$30 I usually buy a couple bottles around the holidays.
