Seasoning Kit RH Question~

I checked the pinned link, the search function and the Boveda site itself and yet . . .

So the Boveda seasoning kit packets say they're 84% humidity. Is my humidor actually supposed to get up TO that 84%? It's been holding at 74-5% pretty much since the first 24 hours, when I took the hygrometer out of the calibration kit and stuck it in there.

I never looked until it had run its full course. When it was done, the box was holding pretty good. I haven't used one in a few years, so I forget, but I never "peek". How long you supposed to let them do their "thing"? (I use a bowl of water cause I'm frugal )

I usually fill my humi up with water to season it. An water-tight humidor is an air-tight humidor as they say.... just kidding.

I've not used that seasoning kit either but I'd assume it doesn't need to hit the full 84% to be "done". The idea of a boveda is it gives off humidity when RH is below the packet preset and it receives humidity when the RH is above. I'd think since no one stores at 84 that the intent is to over-saturate to get it seasoned, thus making it higher than desired would be ideal. But I could be wrong. Anyone else used one before?

I don't even have a hygro in my current humidor; I just look at the beads. And the one before that I wiped down with distilled water and stuck the cigars in the next day.

So this is uncharted territory. But I'm thinking I'll go ahead and load it next week sometime if nothing changes, and see what happens.

Yea, but now I'm curious what the ambient is, inside the humidor, when I use the bowl method. Hmmmm. I do have a glass topped humidor.

Well, I have both the analog and digital hygros calibrated with the Boveda kit and they both say the humi's holding at 75% RH for the last few days . . . on day 6 of the 84% Boveda packs being in there. So I don't know what to think.

The Corpus Christi Bay is a humid, humid climate. Even indoors with A/C pulling the moisture out of the air. That's why I've always used beads.

I think I'm going to stick one of the packets inside an empty box inside the humidor, take the other two out, and see what it does with just that and the beads in there.
