I have been looking at some cigars that have a shag foot and I was wondering, do you clip the foot before you light it or not? Is there a significance to the shag foot. I did read somewhere that it was on old style of rolling.

Thanks,

Johnny

I don't believe you cut it....I think you just light the shag...I've never had one thouhg, so I really cannot answer this for sure...interested to hear though! Good topic :)

If you try to cut it you'll likely crack the wrapper. Your cutter should really only ever touch one end of the cigar.

Don't cut it.

Not. But when you light it, be close to your ashtray, some of the shag will fall off the cigar after it's lit.

Yeah just light the foot...no need to cut it. I've had the Gurkha shaggy foot and it made lighting the cigar much easier...you don't have to worry about scorching the wrapper.

If you do decide to cut it, don't actually cut the wrapper - just trim the foot.

I love lighting shaggy-foot cigars, but they do create burn problems early on since it's very easy for one leaf to burn faster than another. I touch up my cigars constantly anyway, so I don't mind. I also second keeping an ashtray nearby. The ash from the foot falls off right away!

Aaron, I'll have to hook you up with some shaggy-foot cigars from MasterGates - they're delicious. ;)

I like the shaggy foot. Seems to make it easier to light and get an even burn to start with. Don't cut it!!!
