Made it through a long-ass week last week, barely crawling over the finish line. I'm driving home after work on Friday and thinking about what would be on the menu (smoke-wise) over the weekend when, about 15 minutes from home, I start to feel a bit crappy. Within 3 more blocks I'm all-out ill with aches and pains, and steadily increasing pressure in my head and a sore throat.

I don't think I've ever had a cold/flu/virus come on as quick as it did on Friday. By Friday night I was sweating out a fever and coming to grips with the fact that I wouldn't be smoking anything over the weekend.

You don't want to know about the shit that came out of my nose on Sunday. It would have given Clive Barker nightmares...

Here is is, Monday afternoon, and I'm still in a sinus-pressure fog and needed to bitch. Don't mind me...

Go down to your locan B&M and pick up some menthol nasal snuff. Tha tobacco should kill the bacteria, and open your nasal passage. I always use snuff when I am sick, and it really makes me feel better.

Get well soon!

Just got over that stuff it had me for two weeks it is a nasty bug going around just make sure you keep up on the fluids. Also the only thing Ifound that helped was Advil cold and sinus, was taking those like candy for a week straight.Good luck.

Alright, time for some free and illegal medical advice. (I'm no longer allowed to practice medicine without a license). When you get an Upper respiratory infection, your body does what it does for a reason. When you take over the counter meds, you prevent your body from doing what it's supposed to do. To top it all off, most of these meds, after about three days, cause the symptoms that you are trying to relieve. So in essence, what should have been a three or four day ordeal ,becomes two weeks of agony. Not from the virus, but from the meds themselves. Tough it out, your URI's won't last as long.

Been dealing with sinus stuff since before the new year, on and off. Best thing is to let it run it's course for the most part. Saline spray is pretty effective in helping clear things up, at least temporarily. I'm just getting over my third bout since December. It really cut into my cigar time. But while I'm feeling better, I'm making up for lost time! Until the next bout!!

Re: Scotch cure:
I had a concert to attend w/ the wife on Saturday Night and was able to prop myself yup through it thanks to a very generous pour of Makers Mark from the dude tending bar. Great show too! We went to see Neko Case play, but before her set Porter Wagoner made a surprise appearance and played a mini set with Marty Stuart, Billy Bob Thorton and Dwight Yokem backing him up.

Re: Doc:
Yeah, I'm convinced that the cure is worse than the sickness at this point...

Re: Snuff:
Interesting... I've heard this before but had completely forgotten about it. I'll have to hunt some down...

URI, psht. I've been dealing with viral gastroenteritis since Saturday night-ish (well, that was the first of the puking). It usually lasts only two days so I'm hoping I'll be peachy by tomorrow.

Seriously?!?!? Whatever works :D , as for me, I just drink a sh*t load of water, then I drink more water. No coffee, just water. It usually helps me out.

Sinus infections always find me somehow. It my quest for prevention and relief I stumbled upon simple saline solution. I use it everyday to keep the passages clean and to prevent any stagnation in there that might lead to an infection. It works well and since I started using it I have had less sinus trouble and infections.

OTC sinus spray is good. I combine it with Sudafed and it is pretty effective.

If you get chronic sinus infections often, go find a good ear, nose, and throat specialist. I had a CAT scan done and found out that I had a severely deviated septum that is causing me my sinus infections and sinus problems. I elected to have surgery to repair it in early April. This is gonna cut into my cigar time. But hopefully I will be able to taste my cigars better :D

I feel your pain. I got here to st. louis thinking that I would be enjoying quite a few good sticks while away from home. That is until the drive here. The first night I was in bed with 102 fever, and with this sore throat... strep? perhaps it was just not meant to be. I've got this box of AF 858's and a couple other choice sticks staring at me above the tv.

Hope you feel better.

I've seen 1 cold in 4 1/2 years. So I can't say I feel your pain. But I smoke cigars whether don't feel to good or out right sick. :D But see me given a flu shot and I will have full fledge fly in less than 2 hours. Gotta love being allergic to the flu shots.

Hmm, interesting about the deviated septum...I get sinus infections at least once every 3 months and I hate it. It's been like that since I was a teenager...maybe I need to get a cat scan. I just got over one a week ago and I can smoke again! *Crowd cheers*

You sound like me. Might be worth looking into. My ENT specialist is one of the best in the area and he told me that I would benefit from this procedure. It would allow my sinuses to drain like normal because right now they don't. Good luck.

Whiskey and lots of it. The more you can get in your bloodstream, the higher proof your blood will be, wiping out the nasty virus like an alcohol wipe.

Works for me.

It turns out that what I tought was an allergy/sinus problem...is actually acid-reflux!

Really! I'm off my sinus med's (that I was taking for years) and only take the acid reflux stuff...I feel MUCH better!!!

oh - it took a ctscan to see that I DO NOT have a DS.
