So I was watching SNL last night (something I rarely do because it absolutely sucks these days) because Drew Barrymore was on - somethings you just never grow out of ;) - and I was blown away by the musical guest Lily Allen. OMG, her straight from the UK voice is knee-meltingly sweet and her biting lyrics are perfectly disguised in an awesome mix of music styles. She's a huge hit on the other side of the big blue, and her album just came out this week here in the US - mark my words, she's gonna be a star here.

Her first song Smile is a twisted tale of how she smiles when her ex is crying in pain, and her second song LDN was an insanely catchy song about London (with twisted yet happy sounding lyrics, of course). The thing that got me hooked was this acoustic version of LDN I found on You Tube from a talk show over there (here's a longer version, that had the start of the song cut off, with an interview that shows how much fun they have on talk shows over there)

Even if the videos of her 2 big hits don't grab you, take a couple minutes to listen to the acoustic version of LDN.

You can listen to her album for free over on mp3.com. I can see the song 'Shame for You' making it big with lyrics like "Oh My God you must be joking me, If you think that you'll be poking me"

In other news - the Van Halen reunion is official (it's already lasted 24 hours longer than the last one!)

Thanks for the heads up. She has a nice clean voice. I suspect that you are correct in that she will do well here in the US. The trick will be her handlers. She has the talent but will need the right connections in the business on this side of the pond.

She sounds kind of Slick Rick to me.

I think she could do well in the US, though.

I find music is much like cigars. Tastes are TRULY subjective. She's not really my cup of tea, but then again a lot of people love Fuente SGs and I don't really care for them.

Thanks for the heads up, it's always nice to at least hear something different.

Very nice! Thanks! I'm always on the look out for fresh new imports! I'm sooooo tired of what they play here in the states, it's always the same 'ol shite on the radio. Another great group I ran into is The Whitest Boy Alive there sound is what I like to call minimalist. Bass, guitar, drums vocals and you can hear each note being played by all the instuments it really is refreshing. Check them out!
