So what about Prince?

I can't give you Sheila E but how about Apollonia

No doubt that the Purple One is a great musician, and may be considered a musical genuis. But I've seen him on TV a few times lately and I can't help but think that he thinks he's the next Godfather Of Soul (RIP JB) and I don't know that he'll ever be.

EDIT to add:

And yes, he can play the bejeezuz out of a Telecaster. One of the few people who can take a Country modeled guitar and make it ROCK.

Great halftime show. The wife and I are wanting to catch one of his shows now.

Great halftime show, but then again I didn't expect anything less from his royal badness.

I've been a huge Prince fan since the early 80's :0 , and have seen him in concert many times on many different tours. The last time I saw Prince was 2 years ago at the HP Pavilion, what an awesome show! My favorite Prince concert was one of his "aftershows" at a small club in san Francisco back in the day. I think it was his Alphabet Street tour, but not really sure, when I found out he was doing this particular "aftershow" at the Warfield Theater so I scored a couple of tickets from a scalper. I had a seat right on the aisle in about the fifth row of seats with a clear shot of the stage. Well, Lisa (Wendy & Lisa) saw me singing along with Prince and gave me a wink and a smile  . The show went on for about 3 hours! with an awesome lineup of perfomers. Everyone from Prince and The Revolution, Sheila E. and the Time! .... simply the best live show I've ever seen.

Couldn't agree more. I'm a big fan and have seen him in concert many times. He always kicks ass and is an underrated guitarista.

"The Kid" rocked! Nuff said.

"THE KID WAS IN RARE FORM TONIGHT!" ..says Billy Sparks

I liked that one better :D

Saw him live 4 times in the bay area, twice where he pulled Carlos Santana up to jam with him. Very nice.
Maceo Parker also plays sax for him every now and then and that's definitely a treat.

Now the music....since Ray you pointed out Jimi Hendrix...was that the song he did but more with a slower blues-like tempo?
When I heard it I was like that sounds like Jimi  Either I can't remember the lyrics to that classic or we're thinking of a different song. It was before he performed Purple Rain.

In my opinion, Prince is a musical genius. Some day he'll mature and write brilliant music.

Doc.
