It's my wife's and I first year doing Thanksgiving (not together, just at our house)

First time every making a turkey to :0

Going to try Alton Brown's Roasting recipe. Curious to know what everyone else's Turkey techniques are...

My family usually goes over to my aunt's house or my grandma's house. Couldn't really tell you how they cook it, but it's pretty damn good. :D

Yeah, this Turkey day will be different for my wife and me as well. It will mark the first thanksgiving in 35 yrs not with my family (due to work demands). Therefore, I've got to figure out how to carve the big bird on my own!

Turkey! You are supposed to have Turkey on Thanksgiving?

We generally have it at both of our families since we are so close. The year we get to feast on the wife's Orange Marmalaid Ham.

Microwave on high for 5 mins, peel open plastic to expose potatos, stir and heat for another 4-5 mins, place on TV table, turn on the Lions game and enjoy

Happy Thanksgiving everyone
Bruce

I'm doing the Alton Brown thing myself. This will be the second year, last years turkey was devine!

Also cooking a Corn Pudding recipe I gleaned from Emmeril.

We're going down the street to one of my sister-in-laws house where 20+ folks are gettin' together for the day. We are bringing 10 lbs. of homemade mash potatoes and a handful of ceegars. Which half of what we are bringing do you thik I'm gettin' ready and which half do you think the wifey is preparing....... :D  :p

Alton Brown huh? That guy is piece of... Let me tell you guys a story. About three years ago this guy came into the shop and was a member of a culinary society in KC. He told us that Alton was in town to do something for their little group. He had asked for some cigars, specific cigars! Opus x, PAMs and such. Well, I thought the guy was cool at the time and my wife really like the show so I dug into my personal stock to get he some of the goodies that the store was out of. The guy asked if there was anything I wanted and offered up aa autographed copy of his latest book. I said that would be great. The guy took my card and said he would get me a copy sent to the store. Later on that day I get a call from Alton himself. He thanks me for the cigars and tells me he wants to do something a little better than a cookbook. He wanted to send me a complete set of the show on dvd. I thanked him and he double checked the info on my card to make sure the info was right to send it out to me. Guess what, yeah I didn't get jack. I'm not mad at him because I know that he's a busy guy but come on you could have easily passed that info on to one of his lackys and got something out to me. I don't mind if you don't send anything but don't promise something and don't follow through.

My advice for a first time turkey? Don't try anything fancy. That will only distract from the basic procedure. For example I'd hate to be so tuned in to getting some spice or flavoring correct that I overcook or scorch the top of the bird!

Start slow young padawan, then work up once the basics are wired.

Good luck. I'll have to look into this Alton Brown or whatever.

I listen to the Cigar Dave show on XM quite frequently. I got on the air once about 3 months ago and he promised to send me a selectionof cigars. I have yet to see them... I emailed about a month ago, they responded very quickly (10 minutes!) and stated they would reship... still nothing. I've stopped listening.

...can't forget this Turkey:

The 19 lb bird is in the oven (went in early) and smells fantastic already. Wife's daughter is making fresh baked bread, and my Mom is at my sister's house baking pumpkin and berry pies. Sister has scalloped corn and dressing underway. They all converge on my house and we plan to eat around 2P today.

...probably time for something that says "Padron" on it.....

The very best holiday regards to all - B.B.S.

The only trick to a good bird is in the brine..brine you say????...yes brine..mine this year consists of water..salt...honey and a bit of flavoured smoke.....I was gonna inject some sage infused butter into it but wen tthe brine instead

Well? How did yours turn out?

Mine was great, juicy, tender, tasty! You could taste a hint of the sage and rosemary in the meat. I got lots of compliments from my (maybe) future inlaws family.

It all equalled up to a very great Thanksgiving day. Good food, good people, a couple of good cigars (Party 898, Party Presidente), a good time indeed!

Definently a good turkey, very juicy, and lots of compliments as well. Will definently do it again, with some minor tweaks.
