Bear with me, this is nessecary to the discussion. I was:

Born in Portland, OR moved to
Seattle, WA
Detroit, MI
Atlanta, GA
Memphis, TN
Detroit, MI
Louisville, KY
Detroit, MI (longest span yet, for about seven years)
Abilene, TX
Houston, TX
Dallas, TX

I grew up, if you will, in Detroit. My Dad worked in the auto industry and well, he was promoted a LOT! I love Detroit, but will probably be a resident of Dallas, TX for the rest of my life (I am now 25). I have always cheered for the Detroit teams. Of course, that was because I was a Detroit resident. Now I am a Dallas resident. Should I switch my allegiance? I mean, what is my Detroit fandom based on? The fact that I grew up there? I haven't lived there in six years.

Don't think this has to do with the inept squads of the Tigers or Lions. The Rangers and Cowboys suck too! I would be trading a Red Wings champ for a Stars loser.

I am stumped! What dictates who you cheer for? Your community that you call home or where you came from as a young man?

more like where you feel loyalty and have good memories.
for example:
i was born in miami fl.
moved to st. augustine fl. when i was 15
moved to hagerstown md.
then martinsburg wv.
and now i live i richmond va.
but i still after all these years am, at heart a dolphin fan.
whether they have a winning season or not i still consider them my team.
i have great memories of watching bob griese and larry czonka with my dad,
so they will always be my team.
i'll always route for them (and whoever plays dallas) :D
so in summary i think it's more a heart thing.

Interesting

Much the similar story here..
Born in Houston but stayed only 2 years.
Dad was with the Boy Scouts and kept getting promoted..alot.
Further and further north we went till we landed outside of Chicago..where I grew up at Wrigley Field.
Moved back to TX in 7th grade but I still followed the Cubbies. I'll still tune in a Cubs game just to look at Wrigley.
When the Senators moved to TX, and it was so darned close, I just had to pull for both teams.

What's wrong with pulling for both?
I'll pull for the Mavs & the Spurs...till they play each other..then it's the Mav's.

You can always keep your alliance with the teams you grew up with and probably should. The fact that you live in Dallas now and probably will be staying means you should start to support your "home" teams now. It's no fun living in a metro area and routing for teams 100's of miles away all the time. So be a Dallas supporter unless Detroit comes to town. :D

If you can't decide, maybe neither. I kinda go along with gws...I was born near New Orleans, but before the Saints came along I was a Packer fan. I still like the Pack, but the Saints and LSU are my teams and always will be no matter where I live (or how badly they suck).

I now live in Colorado and I love the Avs, but I'm not a big Bronco fan. Before that I was in Tallahassee and was lukewarm on the Seminoles. So I don't think you have to pull for the team where you live. You go with what your heart says.

I was born in the D/FW area, moved to Houston for about 15 years, then moved back to D/FW. So, I pretty much follow Houston and Dallas teams.

As far as where your loyaties should lie......Dallas baby!
