Some sad news

There are probably less than 10 reported deaths due to sting rays. Worldwide. Ever.

I'd say that's pretty tragic and unexpected that he died this way. Especially considering he didn't even know the sting ray was there. It's not like he was handling it. If that barb hit any other part of his body he would likely be fine. Bad luck, real bad luck.

The real tragedy was that he was not able to get the help he so deseperately needed to cure him of his lifelong deathwish and the impact that it must have had on a daily basis to his family. Thankfully, his mental illness resulted in a well paying career so they will at least be provided for financially as they will no longer have him for emotional and physical support.

You sure do have a twisted way of thinking.

I resent that remark and frankly am dissapointed that you feel that way. Just because I have a different opinion on this matter does not make me twisted. I am twisted for reasons far beyond this irrelevant and dare I say "unfortunate" (see I am not completely innured to peoples pain, especially his survivors), thank-you very much.

Huh....didn't expect this kind of thread.

As has been said, Steve Irwin's death is most definitely sad and tragic. Was it likely given his profession? Yeah, probably. Was it likely that a stingray would kill him? No, not at all.

To discount a man's death because of his profession is really kind of "sad and tragic" (oh, a new slogan!) in it's own right.

Anytime someone dies at the age of 44 it is sad. Anytime a man leaves behind a wife and two small children it is tragic. Nobody said you had to shed a tear for Steve Irwin, but for cripes sake we should all have a little compassion for his widow and children.

It's a more than a little cold-hearted to in essence say that he got what was coming to him; he spent his entire life trying to educate people and trying to save the wildlife he dearly loved from destruction. He was quite successful in that quest, but his future efforts will be missed.

By all accounts he was a good man and he was dearly loved by his family and friends. If a person can't see the tragedy and sadness in his death, I don't know what else can be said.

:(

Wow. ???

Some people just don't get it.

I could not agree more.

Either I am such a bad typist that what I wrote is coming through the other end of the connection inversed, or you all are just not bothering to read what I wrote in its entirety. Either way I am going to let it drop from this point forward an agree to disagree and ask that you consider one of the very first thing I stated was that I wished nor wanted harm, death, tragedy or otherwise on anyone. Simply that I was shocked by peoples "reactions" to a manner of death that was statistically certain (with of course a stingray twist also stated) and stated clearly why I was suprised by said rections. I promise I am now signing off this thread as there are much better ways to contribute to CP in a more positive and cigar friendly manner. Best wishes to all and the Irwin survivors.
