Hmmm... tough question! I think nerd implies something like a bookworm, someone who studies a lot, know's all the answers.

"Geek" has really seemed to evolve over the last couple of years. Seems to me a geek is someone who uses computers or technology a lot.

I'd like to hear a better definition.

I've been having these debates at work as my boss just needs to decide where Mike, myself and Matt fall on the Geek vs. Nerd vs. Dork.


Geek: Has a few hard-core obsessions, typically having to do with some part of pop-culture. These discussions? Definately the Geek realm.

Nerd: All-around bookish type with poor hygiene and general obscure-knowledgey.

I've been to Japan on a number of occasions -- cartoon porn is indeed fairly big there. It's really weird from our perspective, but the anime movies and comic books are huge there.

There are places you can go that are like little comic book libraries... dozens of Japanese sitting there reading various comics, sipping on tea/coffee on their lunch break.

I don't "get" the whole anime thing, and probably never will... there are many facets of Japanese culture that I find far more interesting. Sadly, modern Japanese culture is more about anime and Hello Kitty than it is sumo and bonsai.

Haha, Found this definition on another forum. From a geek/dork/nerd test.

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

Hmm, I can say that I used to be a nerd, but now I'm just a geek and a dork.

My best advice, start a pass thread. Put 6-10 dvd's and reap what you sow. Be aware that pirating copies of dvd's is illeagal. But at the same time, I am sure people can figure out the best route to go. 1 for one trade for sure.

This is cigar pass so keep it off the board. Or else, include cigars, I am sure people will be civil if no one is pirating. My .02$
