Started hiding money to support the habit

So, after 10 years of marriage and being tired of defending my cigar purchases, I started putting money aside in a safe and hidden place to save for cigar purchases. You know, things like taking a few bucks extra out of the ATM. Okay, it gets a little tricky to try and explain when a package arrives but I do a lot more purchases around the holidays when it's easier to hide. Otherwise, I just hit up the local b&m with cash in hand.

I'm afraid it might escalate to diverting a percentage of my paycheck to a secret savings account.

Anyone else have to do this or am I the only wimp who has to hide my purchases? :p

Nope, I have the greatest better half on the planet. Never once has she even said boo about me buying cigars. And that being said, we have 5 kids, as long as the bills get paid, we put money aside, she has no issues at all with me buying cigars. Hell, I cant even tell you how many times I've talked about buying a box and told her I wasn't because of how much they were only to have her say, "go ahead, get them if you want them." And nope, never once has she YET used the "you buy all the cigars you want so I'm buying..." line on me!

Love you honey!

Nah, I'm another one of the lucky ones. Once the bills are paid I could buy almost anything short of hookers. She does give me the look when I get a box, but it is more of a joke than a gripe. In order to make sure I don't go overboard I match any cigar purchases with a cash contribution to Jake's 529. I get cigars, Jake gets an education, and I get to tuck a bit away from the government. It is a good deal.

I don't have to hide money, but I can't go crazy either.

As long as there isn't a box showing up daily I'm fine.

I am in the same boat as you mcoupe. Girlfriend goes nuts when ever I buy or smoke cigars. She hates the health assspects of it and the fact that it's money I can't spend on her. She goes in to these hour long tyraids on how bad it is and wants me to only smoke (like once a month.)

I don't see me stopping any time soon though so she needs to get over this shit. Agh women!!

Ah well that felt good.

GIRLFRIEND?!? Well, that means you can trade her in and get a new one and it wouldn't me that expensive. It's us married folk that would really be in trouble. Of course, I'm just kidding (I think).

No extra money to hide since I spend it on scotch so my cigar budget isn't that big.

I'm married to my best friend. She's frustrated that she can't just sneak me a box like I'd buy her flowers. She doesn't mind me smoking in the house either. Cold as it's been today, thats a GOOD thing.

I don't hide anything from my wife. I don't let my spending get out of control, either.

As long as everything that needs to be taken care of is taken care of, spending a little here and there on a hobby shouldn't be an issue in a relationship. Now, if that hobby spending is beyond the means of the household budget, that's another issue.

I would have never had a girlfriend that griped about ANYTHING I bought. If she were upset about money not being spent on her, that's pretty selfish and she would find herself out of my life straight away.

My wife never has had a problem with my cigars. I keep her at the level of luxury she expects, the bills get paid, and the kids college is paid. The rest is mine.

If you want to avoid the boxes showing up at home, get a P.O. Box.

My better half doesn't bitch & moan about me buying cigars, pipes & tobacco. Most of it is bought with the money I earn from teaching MSF in the summertime anyway. However, she is scared that some day, the nice boys in uniform from Revenue Canada are going to show up at the house wanting to see what was in all those packages!!!

Every time we go to Detroit and I make a stop at the P/O and the B&M (they're in the same plaza) she enjoys it because I drop her off at a store somewhere and leave her alone for a while!!!

Now, CC4S, if I wasn't married and had a GF that bitched and moaned about me smoking and spending money on something besides her ...................................................

Well, let's say I'd be like Bill ....... SINGLE & LOVING IT

Hey Bill, is it "I'm not married so I do as I damn well please..." or "I do as I damn well please, that's why I'm not married!"...ha, ha, ha

Hey CC4S - That situation ain't gonna get better with age.

Hey AVB - Is the Luger the sexiest pistol ever made or what? The girl is nice too...love the sig pic.

As for me, my wife smokes the occasional cigar (Padron '26 #35 being her current favorite) and has learned enough about them to buy me the occasional stick. Last year when we were visiting a local B&M, he had some Opus cigars at retail, but limited to 3/customer. I grabbed 3 and mentioned they were hard to find, particularly at retail to my wife, she grabbed 3, paid for them with her own money and handed them to me on the way out of the shop.

Sounds like some of you guys should follow CC's lifestyle and
not have to answer to anyone. If you have to hide anything it
does not auger well for any relationship. :whistling:

Just my 00000.2
