Strong Meteor Shower Expected Tonight

Just took a 15 minute walk with the dogs. We've got a moderate amount of light pollution out in my corner of the suburbs but not to a deal-breaking degree--I can see a respectable (for being in a large city) amount of stars on a clear night. 40-60% cloud cover and couldn't see squat other than normal stars in any of the large open patches in any quadrant.

I'm planning on doing more studying and checking back in an hour or two when it's supposed to get closer to peaking. If it's a worthwhile show I just might have to burn a WOAM or some other short smoke.

Still nothing doing even with a nearly cloudless sky. Perhaps the bright and inconveniently located moon acting in concert with ambient light pollution is simply too much to overcome.

I realized the obvious futility in having to research where and when I should be looking, but I did discover that the northeast is the best direction to look and that they're supposed to peak between 4 and 5 AM EST. Going to get back to work and then check things out again in 45 minutes or so...

Fired up a La Aurora and sat out for the meteor shower with a mint julep. Just got in, and I got to see a few. I was hoping it would be a little better, but it was still enjoyable.

Saw plenty of stars, though none of them were shooting. Perhaps the fact that I'm in the SW corner of the metro area meant that there was too much light pollution to the NE.

I'd have been better served by staying inside, closing my eyes, and poking my fingers into my eyelids. At least that way I wouldn't have as many mosquito bites on my ankles.

I brought a WOAM outside to fire up if there was anything to watch, and it's so damn humid out that I'm afraid to put it back in my humidor. There are a few small thunderstorms approaching that should at least provide some entertaining lightning, so after checking the radar just now, I think I'll head back out...

A friend and I saw all kinds of shooting stars last night! It was a great time we both lit up some good sticks, popped in some James Taylor, and enjoyed the show. They were literally falling at around one or more per minute, some were really bright with long tails full of colors. Really cool experience, lots of fun.

Too much light pollution here in Orange County. It also didn't help that the clouds rolled into from the ocean to the coast. Maybe next time :(
