Stupid little storage hack ... you've probably already figured it out

But I'm not always the sharpest knife in the drawer. I've been buying those little cedar cigar trays from Amazon for use in my second beverage cooler without the cedar interior, and also storing some boxes in it, which take up a lot of space. A lot of guys with bigger cabinet humidors or full-height fridges store whole boxes, but I don't have that kind of space in my smaller fridges.

So I'm looking at a box of 20 Avos today and suddenly it hit me. The box is nothing but a tray with a lid. Why not ditch the lid?? So I got a little screwdriver and pried the lid away from the box, it's just stuck on with press-fit fins. The box part is a "tray", the cigars fit perfectly, and I don't have to buy more trays from Amazon. After I smoke a few, if I've also smoked a few in the drawers of one of my fridges, I can move the cigars to a drawer, and toss it, or continue to use it as a tray for other smokes.

Take the lids off your boxes! It's a simple, but I think pretty good idea!

Yeah, I must have 4-5 of the store-bought trays, but this idea will keep me from buying more, I think. I don’t get a lot of boxes, mostly fivers and bundles, but that Avo box is perfect for this. Not too thick. I’m going to keep an eye out for thinner boxes to do this with. Like humidors (love the tupperdores I’ll probably never buy another commercial cigar tray.

I snagged about 5 or 6 of these empty boxes over time from a local store for like $2 ea. They seem to be popular so they show up every few weeks when I stop by. They make awesome trays w the slider top removed. Or, if you are like me with lights, you can leave the slider in but cracked open if you have concerns about the light fading wrappers. I spritz them with some DI water then wipe them down and just put them in the wineador. I will pick up more as they become available. They are about the perfect size and fit just right on my shelves where Im limited to 3 inch tall boxes or less on all but the top shelf. The wood is fairly thick compared to other boxes also so they should help maintain humidity.

I did buy a couple trays and had to cut off about 1/2" from the top all around. They now fit like a glove inside my sistema container w very little wasted space. That would be my only reason for buying trays now. In the past I found it very hard to find boxes that were the perfect size to fit in tupperdors.
