Growing too fast.
After filling up on a nice lunch, I grabbed the Taboada Sublimes dated 2007 received from David (Azoetia), and headed up front to get comfortable under the walnut tree. My wife and baby girl came out as well bringing a little picnic lunch for Jess, who left it half-eaten to let mommy push her on the swing only a few minutes later. The Taboada is one beautiful cigar having a dark chocolate brown wrapper full of oils that glisten in the sunlight, and small veins running throughout. It has a perfect weight in the hand, a slight give when squeezed with no soft spots to be found. I punch the cap and find the draw absolutely perfect with a taste of rich, sweet tobacco coming through.
I torch the covered foot letting the leaf burn, then blow it off and torch the foot until lit well and burning even. After the smoke is flowing well enough, I take a long draw and get a perfect amount of spice on the back of the tongue and throat. The smoke is a medium strength with a full body that is rather thick on the palate. Flavors are fantastic, rich and oh so delicious with tastes of coffee, cocoa, leather and earth and a long, lasting sweet finish.
Through the first third and into halfway, the burn requires a slight touch-up, but nothing major. The smoke is still medium in strength, very smooth on the palate and flowing effortlessly through the perfect draw with spice hitting the tongue and throat just right. Flavors are like none other, incredibly rich and oh so delicious, hands down one of the best Cubans I’ve ever smoked, which says a lot. Everything is working perfect together, yet the smoke is quite complex with a note of mustiness in the lasting finish.
Holy cow what a dark, menacing looking cloud is coming up behind the house, the wind is really blowing like crazy. I have to pack up my stuff and head back to the porch, fun. Towards the end of the Taboada, it seems I run into a bit of tunneling as I’m puffing a good bit yet finding it difficult to get good smoke through; however this only lasts a short time. The strength is medium to full with a little more kick in the spice and flavors are what I would describe as meaty, yet still rich and delicious.
What an absolutely superb cigar with good burn, perfect draw, incredibly rich, delicious flavors in the lasting finish that I just couldn’t get enough of. Thanks so much David for the opportunity to smoke such an excellent cigar!
