Last weekend I grabbed a Tatuaje Reserva for my first ever Tatuaje ever for the short 2 hour trip to the lake. I was extremely excited to give this a try due to the hype and the strong followings I have read around the forums. The cigar started out great but after the first 1/3, I felt like I was smoking a piece of ply wood. I also had a Arnold Palmer which I have found to be a great accompany with cigars. Is this taste normal or did I get an odd ball? I am hesitant to try the Havana now just because of this experience. I ended up throwing about a 1/3 out the window unfortunately. Hopefully you guys can fix my wonders. Thanks.

If I was to answer 'Tatauje Reserva SW', would that make sense? :p

The SW stands for Sir Winston I believe. I personally enjoyed this cigar very much, but that's coming from a Tat whore. My suggestion is to try this cigar again, maybe you got the oddball stick, LOL. Before you try the Havana, I would suggest trying the J21, I have yet to go wrong with that stick.

I'm not sure how popular Arnold Palmers are with cigars, but perhaps try a different drink. Personally, I don't like any citrus drinks with my cigars; it feels like they work against each other for me.

Some of the Tats are very mild but you may have gotten a bad, too. I have a standard rule for myself when trying a new blend. Sample from at least two from different boxes and sources.

I've seen humidor managers let boxes sit out of the humidor for weeks before getting around to pricing them and putting them in the humi.

In the summer, I've seen shipments arrive with the box literally too hot to touch.

Who knows what might happen with a wholesaler/distributer, too. Sh&t really does happen.

My taste buds are sometimes off, too

I remember not really liking the first few Tatuajes I had -- all bought from a couple local B&Ms.

I had an aged Especiales that changed my mind about the line. There's still lots to try for me, but I've found that I prefer the Havana VI line.

I enjoy most of the Tat Browns, the SW is not one of them. It's mild, and yeah, it is kind of woody. Sort of like smoking wood chips. Try the Noella or the Especiales. Most people seem to enjoy those. Then go from there. The Havana is a pretty good line. I would start with the Hermoso, most folks seem to enjoy that cigar. The suggestion to switch up your drink isn't a bad one either. Especially if you're driving. :) Might seem odd to some, but I enjoy Mountain Dew with Nicaraguan cigars. They seem to be stronger, I guess, and have a sort of tang to them that pairs well with the Dew. All other cigars I pair with a Coke/Pepsi.

Good luck.

I've had a couple Tats like that . . . one being a J21 last week. I was pretty disappointed, as it was my first and I have heard great things. Regardless, being flat is something I wouldn't attribute to a Tat. As has been mentioned, try a Noella or one of the new Reservas.

I don't think that the drink had really anything to do with it. Could it be that I tend to just like the more coffee/leathery tastes from cigars? Ehh, anywho, thanks for the info guys. After I forget about the experience, I'll hopefully partake in another one from their line.

It's crazy how one cigar can really turn you off to a complete line.

As has been said, the Tat SW is a more Mild cigar in the line (although the SW Maddie is a whole nother ballgame :)...Some tats do tend to have a woodsy flavor, but I have found it typically diminishes once the cigars are stored for a couple of weeks at a constant temp/humidity...how long did you store yours before smoking it?

If you want something with a little more zing in the tat line, try a J21 or any of the Red bands...

Hope that helps!

Next time try to avoid throwing burning material out the car window.

It's just one more reason for the non-smokers to dislike us, not to mention just plain wrong IMO.

Why? It may be really dry where you are, but I don't see any problem with throwing a butt into a field as I drive by if I know it won't catch anything on fire...

As far as littering is concerned, would you frown up on someone disposing of a handfull of leaves in a field?

I'm glad you can be so sure of the consequences of your actions.

My local shop is very good at keeping things rested before selling them. Their humidor is also one of the best kept ones I have seen around. Cigar issue, not storage issue.

Cigar was pretty much out before I tossed it. I was so torn on throwing away a half of cigar, it just sat there waiting for a suck or a throw. But then again, I don't see any issue with throwing leaves on the side of the road; I keep my bands.

What unintended consequences could there be fore throwing a lit cigar into a empty green field?

Enlighten me.

Sorry to bump an old topic but by local tobacconist swears up and down about these Tats. If you guys were to recommend me one, which one would it be?
