I always ask them for their home number so I can call and bug them. They always decline and politely hang up.

That's not technically fake. Tom Mabe does this for a living, and he's put out several albums of his work. The telemarketers are real, Mabe just f*cks with them.

As an aside, the shortest job I ever had was as a telemarketer. I quit after 1 hour. They even sent me a W-2 at the end of the year.

My wife has a couple of favorite lines to deal with this.....

1) She'll politely decline and if they keep talking, she says, "I said it nice didn't I?"

2) If she declines and they say something like "...well I understand that but..." she butts in and says "Well obviously you don't because you're still talking".

She cracks me up.

Gawd I lover her.
