Now that the weather has cooled my vinotemp is running steady at 60 to 61 and holding rh at 68 to 70 even though I am using 65 beads.
Smokes are smoking fine though.

Is 60 too cold?

Maybe I should have posted this in the humidor forum.
I humbly bow for a beating.

As long as your humidity is staying steady I wouldn't worry about 60*. It will slow the aging process a bit, but I'd rather that than have them too warm.

I keep my cigars in the basement year round. In the winter they have gotten as low as 58*. The humidity is always stable. I've never experienced any problems due to storage with any of my cigars since moving them down there.

For VERY long term storage I've heard of temps in the low to mid 50s being used.

I wouldn't worry about temp as much as humidity at the levels you're talking about. Of course, I'm no expert and I could be wrong.

I now have my vinotemp setup in my basement. So far the humidity is right on but the temps have been getting down to mid 50s. I guess it is what it is. I don't think it will cause problems.

I'm a little nervous depending on how low temps get this winter but it's going to have to work down there. Hopefully it never gets below 50.

I think it the summertime it will be perfect storage conditions.

It's doubtful you're going to drop below 50F and go above 80F. Stay within that range and you're fine. Mid 60's IMO is ideal.

Sidebar comment: just bid on a Vinotemp 28 bottle unit last night on Ebay. Its going for $100 bucks. I am pretty hopefully as the auction is a pick up only...they won't ship. So that will weed out a lot of guys (and girls). I think I have completely reached the darkside. The funny part is that I already have a wine fridge in the house. Guess what I keep in it...WINE! Yeah I know I am real freak of nature. Anyway wish me luck on my auction.
