Hey all,

I just thought I'd throw this out there. Seen many a post about a plug or too tight to draw cigar that ended up gettin thrown away.

Bondi recently sent Tasman a Draw Poker in a bomb.

Tonight I brought out my first Siglo VI and found it very tight to draw. So I thought, what an opportunity to try the gadget. I used it and it literally saved the cigar.

It's a bit pricey for such a simple gadget, but when you have 1 Siglo VI and it saves it, it sure seems worth it.

Just thought I'd give it a  for everyone in case you were interested.

There are less elaborate (read cheaper) versions out there. I use CC's woodscrew trick -- that usually does the job. The longer drywall screw is my preferred "tool" for this problem.

Yep, no doubt there are cheaper ways to get the same results. But nevertheless, it's a functional tool.

Plus the way it's put together there's no risk of the "stabber" coming out the side of the cigar. It drives a straight hole from one end to the other.

But aye, can't deny there are definitely cheaper ways to do it.

Yeah, I've got a draw poker as well. Great tool, but fortunately I rarely need to use it!

I used to use a knitting needle(you can get them at Wal-Mart for a dollar), but have found that a plugged cigar will never smoke right. Now I usually just toss them in the yard and grab another, instead of spending the next hour or two f*$king with the cigar.

When you're as inept as I am, the help with not sticking the poker through the side of the cigars is a nice feature.

Do you mind elaborating on this. Is there any specific technique or is it self explanatory (I couldn't find any info when searching)?

I was bored one day and made a jig for my drill press that holds the cigar perfectly square and plumb to a 16", 1/16" drill bit. Works pretty slick. Kind of over-engineered though. ;)

Doc.

I first heard about the technique from CC. Basically, you just take the longest wood screw you can find, insert it into the head of the cigar, and begin turning it. It enters the stick and, if the plug is in the top third of the stick, usually does a very good job. If the plug is farther down, you're pretty much up a creek. The good thing about a draw poker is that it is much longer than a screw.

Thanks for the info on the wood screws. I ran into a bit of an issue with a nice VSG Torpedo last night and had no way to correct it. Needless to say I smoked it anyway but kept threatining to toss it every other puff!

I just got one in a trade. Great tool!!!!
