Back in October, I posted a topic with the title of "Time to Gloat." In that thread I spoke of my first 5k run, or 3.1 miles. In that same thread, I was asked what my goal was, and I replied to run the Kentucky Derby Mini-Marathon.

I did just that today. I ran a half marathon, the Kentucky Derby Mini-Marathon, or as I like to call it, 13.1 miles of withing I was dead.

As I drove to the run this morning, I was thinking that, perhaps next year, I would run the full marathon or 26.2 miles. Now I thinkin that I will just try to finish the run with a little time shaved off of the mini.

I ask that a few of you smoke a good one for me today, cause honestly, I don't feel up to it.

Congrats Jet!

I've never run for the sake of running...Ran to play sports, but not to JUST run. Lately gravity has been playing tricks on me. I might need to start running for the sake of my midsection!!! :)

Good job. It was a great morning for the race, although maybe a few degrees cooler would have been even better. But there was no rain, which is always a plus.

Great accomplishment! What was your time?
Damn, I knew someone was gonna ask that.

Let me preface that answer by saying that I have been unable to train for the last 4 months with the outrageous amount of overtime I've been putting in at work. I have about 700 hours of overtime since January 1st. So running has absolutely fallen off. In addtion, because I am such an overtime whore, I worked midnight shift last night. So to recap, haven't ran 13 miles over the last 4 months, and woke up at 11 am yesterday to watch the kids, then worked all night before trying to run 13.1 miles.

OK OK I ran it in 3 hours, or about a 14 minute mile. It really put it in perspective when the guys that were running the full marathon, or 26.2 miles rejoined the same coarse at the last mile after breaking off for an extra 12 miles, and we were neck and neck to the finish line. :whistling:

Next year I will try for a good time. This year, I just wanted to cross the finish line.

Well done!!! My son (Postembargo :D ) ran a half marathon last year. After seeing what he had to go through, I know what an accomplihment it is for you. You've a lot to be proud of. Way to go!

I played 8 games of basketball in 2 hours today, couldn't make a shot so I had to drive all day, and I read that and said "F--- that". Way to go man, that takes a lot of guts and training, congrats and good luck on the full marithon... right?

Having been a runner in highschool I admire you coming back to the pavement. I really should make the effort to do the same. You may have inspired me Jet! Congrats on the run and Go for it next year!
