@cabaiguan juan Jon mentioned the intrigue of bars in the Allegheny National Forest in the Happy Thread which got me to thinking.

The Hallton Hilton, on the Clarion River in northwest central Pa. has been a famous landmark for decades and has quite a history. It's right on the river and canoers, kayakers, and rafters, used to stop just to see what the talk was all about.

I mentioned in the Happy Thread that I went to the bathroom one night, in bear season 30 years ago, and peed all over my boots before I realized that the toilet bowl was frozen solid and splashing me. There was a large (about a foot in diameter) hole in the floor which was "usually" covered by a table and chairs but occasionally, someone would move the table resulting in a broken leg.

Below are some pictures with a bit of personal history:
This is what it looked like up until about 6 years ago. I used to tell people that I would drive them past a bar twice and if they could point it out I would buy them a beer, if they couldn't they had to buy me a beer.

There were broken windows as well as cars and appliances in the yard (to the left) and zero indication that it was a bar.

This is John, the former owner who passed away in 2015. This is after he "cleaned the place up". If you look on the wall over John's rights shoulder you can see a dome, right behind the gas lamp, that dome is actually a beautiful old clock. One night about 25 years ago, I asked John what the bump was on the wall (the wall was covered with grease, hair, dirt, insects, etc.) and you could only see a bump in the goo. He said "it's a fuckin clock".

This is not "the" clock, but this is what it is.

This is the view from the river.

I miss the good old days!

The new owners have turned it into a very nice place! Sort of............

I wanted to take @jfields here but we didn't find time.

What a great story, we do a fair amount of canoeing here in Michigan but there are few bars that you can get to from the rivers.

There was this bar in Michigan almost on the NE Ohio border called stammers. No taps only bottles and cans, soft spots in the bathroom floors where it was advisable you don't lean... what a great place.

Now that’s a gin mill! Been a long time since I walked through a bar hearing my feet as they were pulled up off the sticky floor for each step.
