Tires for life is a joke

I got tires for life with the Trailblazer last year and I knew you had to have the dealership do the scheduled tire rotations (40 bux) every 6 thousand miles for it to be valid (which I didn't do). But, you also have to have them do an alignment and balance the tires once a year (120 bux), AND they have to do the oil changes every 3,000 miles (35 bucks). Are you ****ting me, what does an oil change have to do with my tires?

It's cheaper just to buy the damn tires when they need to be replaced. Not to mention that they will only replace them if they say they need to be replaced and only if they have atleast 30,000 miles on them. And they will not replace them if you get a flat.

What a crock!

And I aint no suckah!

Wonder how they feel about the fact that the only thing I had them do today is an inspection which is 10 dollars and look at the a/c which is warranty work.

I've used them both in the past... my truck doesn't need tires yet. I just thought it was messed u pthe way they try and get ya like that.

Yep, that's certainly part of that fine print that makes this deal a big fat ripoff. While the tire rotations and balancing are both maintainance that should be done, having to pay what they charge is BS. Anyone with some common sense and two jack stands can rotate tires. And most likely enjoy a cigar while doing it!

Here's another ripoff - oil changes every 3000 miles. Now, before you guys roast me on the spit, let me assure you that I'm plenty old enough to remember when that was good, no, vital advice. I'm not convinced anymore.

My 2004 VW TDI and the wife's new BMW were both engineered from the ground up to run full synthetic oil; in fact, the engine clearances, etc. are such that that's all you can run. Why change oil at all? Well, as I understand it, there are two basic reasons, first, because the lubricating properties break down over time and it lubricates poorly. Second, because it gets "dirty" with carbon particles that are really abrasive.

Good quality synthetic oil will break down but given the temperatures and pressures in automotive engines, it's a loooong way down the road. Oil filters now work better than ever. My diesel TDI has a 10K change interval and the wife's BMW has a 15K interval..!! Yet, my VW dealer is all over me like stink on you know what to get that car in there every 3K for an oil change. I will add that good quality full synthetic oil isn't cheap, compared to other oils. I finally asked them; "...so, why does VW only recommend 10K if you guys think this is so vital?.." The answer was "...well, of course that will maintain your warranty, but we really think that's too long to go...". Really? Based on what? No answer....

I realize that they make a ton of cash in the service shop, but many of these "tire for life" or "oil every 3K" deals is questionable, IMHO.....

I don't have a fancy scmancy german car ;) but I still only change my oil every 8k or so when I run decent synthetic oil. This is also why I lease vehicles. Even with my poor maintenace on them they should last 3 years!

I did do oil changes every 4k on any sports car I ever owened even with synthetic cause I beat the chit out of them!

I had a 91 ford ranger with 1,562,000 miles on it and teh only thing i ever did to it was religously put in oil every 3000 miles. it went from Colorado Springs, to Michigan, to ohio, to texas without any problems. believe it or not it was a 4 cyl 5 speed.
