Today one of the greatest freedom fighters of all the Americas was born on January 28, 1853. He was a poet, writer, an advocate of personal freedoms. He lived in exile from Cuba in New York City for about 15 years. Central Park South and Avenue of the Americas has honored him with a statute of him on horse back. He was killed in action at Dos Rios in Cuba on May 19, 1895. He left behind a great body of literature, poetry and other writings. A short Bio
