So, on a whim, I got a box of JR Ultimate Candelas. The reason being as a young LT in the Air Force I used to get JR Ultimates in what they called English Market Selection wrappers in Double Corona size. EMS would likely be called natural today.

They were terrific cigars in the early 1980s, and rumored to have been made by HdM Excalibur. And that makes sense. They were $75 per 25 then which would be $240 in today’s dollars. The box is EXACTLY the same as the Excalibur box, FWIW. Today they sell for the exact same price which nowadays is $3 a stick.

Far from being “Ultimate” these are house brand econo-smokes these days. Anyway it sucked. Tossed it in the bushes without taking a photo.

Mine was ROTT, not smart, and burned accordingly. I’ll let them sit for 6months and if they get better, I’ll give some away in a contest. This was, after all, a lark.

Glad to hear! I just picked up two of these yesterday at a Tinder Box in Palm Springs. Going to leave them in the humi until a future camping trip in October. Hope mine are how you have described them
