My first review, so go easy :)

So I bought the Double Happiness humidor sampler from CI when it was $16. I saved this smoke for last, with the belief that it would be amoung the most complex. I smoked this about 2 months ago, and I was right. Then, my palate was very unexperienced, so I neglected to review.

I decided to revisit this smoke last night, and let me just say that it was incredible. The box pressed, oily stick made my mouth water, and I could detect a chocolate aroma through the cellophane. Cut nicely. The cigar was constructed beautifully, and the pre light draw was complex, which is to be expected when tobaccos from 5 different countries are used in a blend.

I toasted the foot, and lit this puppy up. Immediately I noticed chocolate earthiness. The draw was ideal, and the flavor complex. After 10 minutes or so, the earthiness was replaced by a brief period of spice, which transformed back into creamy chocolatey goodness. I also detected undertones of coffee. There were probably many flavors that my palate didn't recognize, but all in all, I can give two big thumbs up for the Exodus 1959. The ash lasted a good 1/2 inch anyway, and the burn was very slow, never becoming too hot.

I would recommend this stick, especially at the price it's being sold at now. Currently rated "91", I would suspect that that is subject to change in the near future :)

Nice Review!

I assume you are talking about the Toro that came with the sampler? Here is a thread from a review a while back that had some interesting discussion regarding several peoples opinions on this smoke. It seems your experiance was similar to mine.

I was one of the guys who found the thing to be nasty. I tried another about a month ago, and meant to revisit that thread.

I don't know what was up with that first one I smoked, but the second one was a different animal. It's been a while now, so I don't remember any details. I do recall enjoying it, but I wasn't blown away.

I had another one of these tonight so great timing on this.

I think the spicy chocolateness and complexness of this cigar is great. Prelight, it is one of the best cigars, bar none. But the uneven burn (and I lit it PERFECTLY) and the fact that it was going out just like the other ones I've had are more than a bit irritating. Also I had this after a steak and chocolate cake.

Although I like this cigar, it's not going to be something I purchase. I'd rather reach for a Gurkha Regent for the same price if I want the chocolatey maduro.

I've smoked quite a few of the Gold Exodus Robustos and enjoy them fresh out of the box. I will say that I've had a dud every now and then, but for the most part these are a great buy.

Now the Silver Exodus are a different story. I can't stand them fresh, but with a few months in the humi, they improve quite a bit.

i had one of these torano's yesterday, but apparently didn't have enough age on mine as it only gave the creamy chocolate taste towards the last 1/3 of the cigar and some kind of weird funk in the first 2/3 of it. Despite this, i still thought it was a good cigar, especially for the price. I'll have to give this one another go in a month.

nice review btw.

That's strange. I smoked my first with only a month or two of age... and the second had virtually none. Perhaps they're inconsistent, and I got lucky twice

it may have been the fact that it was also frigid out when i smoked mine that it picked up some nasty. i've had other toranos and loved them. ??? either way, i'm gonna wait a lil while to light up the other one i have.

I enjoy both the Gold and Silver. The Silver being a bit sweeter to me (I think that's the taste difference). Perhaps the tastes would be better described as "strengths." The Gold is a more complex and earthy after-a-big-meal taste; while the Silver is a sweeter and anytime smoke. Both are of the highest quality (again - speaking for myself), and I would recommend them without reservation.

My favorite cigar. Nice review. Not overpowering but great flavors.I find they mellow with a bit of age to them.
