Well, I decided to see what options was available for me so that I can full fill my Language requirement I need so that I can finally graduate College. Its been a huge hassle for me. After 3 attempts of Spanish, 2 times at German, and 1 time at Chinese, and many $$$ later, I will be studying at the Moscow State University Language Center in Moscow, Russia next year. It will be a 2 month intensive study between March 3rd to April 28th in which I will fly home back to the USA. I got the acceptance today and will see how the rest of the process goes throughout the next few months. Thats my good news for the day.

Take your own cigars, every Cuban I saw in Moscow was fake even the ones at the the fanciest hotels. Don't forget you can read the Russian Cigar Clan Magazine in English or Russian while you're there.

I loved touring Russia, the food, the drink!............and be sure to go to St. Petersburg (if you get a chance), lots 'o lovelies from Finland! ;)

I only wish I could have had more time to spend there. Going to learn a language through immersion, there is no better way. I did so in Sweden 1996.

That sounds like a blast Loren.

You won't be back until late April? I was actually planning on going to Outlaw in April! I guess I'll have to make another trip down there to meet you bubba.

Good for you Loren, don't come back married, i hear those Ruskie women are beautiful.

I've been to Moscow State University's campus area. During teh time you wil be there it will seem quite blight. The late winter/early spring season is kind of "dark" and a bit depressing. Moscow is wonderful place to visit though. The history within Red Square is amazing. I may have to have you pick me up some stuff while you're there. :)

First, I missed seeing you at the Outlaw golf outing, but I understand you have moved some distance from KC. I have only been to Russia once and that was about 10 years ago. I bought cigars on the way, in Germany which was the stop en route to Moscow and did not even bother to look in Russia. Unless the infrastructure has improved significantly, you should take as much water as you can. If you like coffee take that too, the Russians we stayed with (all named Ludmilla) drank mostly tea and the coffee was instant. Killer beans comes to mind. Hopefully you go in the summer, we went in winter and it was -40 degrees when we got there, and no that wasn't with wind chill, why compute it at that temp. But, that being said, the people were good and vodka was yummy.

Hey Matt...thanks for those pictures. I will be busy during the week, but the weekend will be play time. I found out the University is on a main train line to the Red Square. Its just a 20 min ride or so.

And yeah Indyrob, I know I will be missing Carlito in April. Quick..someone call a Doc and see if I am feeling ok.

The top picture is Moscow State University, if my memory serves. Where we were standing to take that picture was on an overlook that looked down onto Olympic village. They have a small street market set up there where they sell trinkets and souveneirs, etc. We bought a ton of stuff, but the one thing I didn't get was a nice chess set to hand down to my kids. Since they were born there, we brought back lots of smaller stuff to give to them on their birthdays, etc. The prices over here, for the exact same stuff, is outrageous. Pick up whatever you can while you are there. I also have several back issues of Russia Life magazine from the last year or so, if you would like them. LMK

Congratulations on the acceptance, Loren. Travel abroad is a wonderful thing and I know that with the cultural immersion, you'll become more than proficient in short order.
