Hi

My wife and I spent 6 days in Ho Chi Minh City in April this year and it was fun visiting a new country :) I have made this trip report that contains photos, videos, maps etc that you can view on http://gardkarlsen.com/Ho_Chi_Minh_City_Vi...trip_report.htm . We only got to see Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam by the way and I hope to go back to the country one day as there are lots more to explore. But as usual we were pressed for time and we had to move on to Cambodia.
Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or comments. I hope that it can be of some help to others that are planning to visit the city :)

Very interesting, Vietnam is someplace I've always wanted to visit. Before my cousin (Air force SP) died in a mortar attack during the last year of the US involvement in the war, he came home on a short R&R and described how beautiful the country was.

I was very young but still have the old Kodachrome pictures he gave me.

Not someplace I'd want to go back too. Thailand however........

I really enjoyed myself in Vietnam while I was there. It really helps if you or someone you are with speaks the language I find you are less likely to get ripped off that way. Other than that i spent almost a month there Dec 08/Jan 09. Some really wonderful places are to be found there but the Tourist "facilities" are a little rough Not alot of English speaking folks. No real mass transit in any of the cities (unlike Bangkok which has a subway and Skytrains) So Taxi's are the tourists best friend to get around the big cities like HCMC, Can Tho, Hanoi. Smaller places like Nha Trang you can walk around the area quite well. I LOVED the island of Phuc Quoc. That island is definatly on my go back to list and i want to do it before it gets over developed (already in contracts to build mega resort and casino on the island). If you ever go back dedicate at least two weeks to it and just do like 3 cities/regions. So much to see/do.

I loved Northern Vietnam.

Scootered from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay.
What a gorgeous place!
Wish I had stayed longer there and maybe checked out Cat Ba island.
