A bit from the movie, Network. Not the "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore" one. Or the Howard Beale moment, either. But this one is sure prophetic! ;)

Remind anyone of the "Fox, Fair and Balanced" circus of jugglers, acrobats, and illusionists?

I'm not really sure what it has to do with Fox other than that someone put the banner up in the middle. It seems to be relevant to AL networks and what TV has become. If anyone thinks that Fox is the only network that shows some bias then I'm not sure what they're watching. It's ALL tilted one way or another.

That is a great movie, though. :)

Great movie, but I ignored the banners. Who is calling Fox a circus of jugglers, acrobats, and illusionists?
Why, that would be me! :D

No, Fox is just the epitome and the rest only pretenders to the throne. ;) They actually used to do some decent investigative journalism in the beginning. I always thought the watershed moment was when Cameron's piece on the Israeli spy ring was pulled after the second of a four-part series. Their web page that refers to it now says, "This story no longer exists". How Orwellian! It's still Google-cached though.

Now "investigative journalism" is an oxymoron in this country and much of the industrialized world.

"Network" narrator - "This was the story of Howard Beale: The first known instance of a man who was killed because of lousy ratings."

My favorite scene in Network is when Ned Beatty gets Peter Finch(Howard Beale) into the conference room to tell him of the "reality" of modern, corporate industry. Being disillusioned is now known as having a "Howard Beale moment".
