I had the recent opportunity to peruse the archives of a vintage cigar box
label collection and in doing so, like many cigar smokes, I brought with me
an existing appreciation for the heritage and history of cigars. Not well
versed on the history of cigar labels, other than a few old cigar boxes I have managed to collect over the past few years, I was taken back by the beauty of the this art form and the complexity of Stone Lithography, the method use to create this slice of Americana Art. Never intended to become a collectable, these mini masterpieces have become a true collectable and appreciated by both the art counessiour and cigar aficionado.
We have had the unique opportunity to acquire this fine collection. Our intention is to share this art with those cigar smokes who also appreciate the mystique and folklore associated with cigars, depicted so well by lithographers and cigar manufactures from the 1850s through the 1920.
We are currently inventorying this archive and creating a dedicated web site, to display, promote and sell this piece of history.
Associated with PAYNE-MASON Cigars, this new venture will be known as The PAYNE-MASON Collection.
I may be premature in announcing this soon to come unveiling, but everyday I become a little more amassed and anxious to introduce this American Art form to those who I know will gain an increasing appreciation as I have.
I will keep you posted as to our development and eager to answer any of your question regarding Vintage Cigar Label Art.
