I got a virus, problem here is I can't get into my Norton program...I can't even un-install it in order to re-install. I found the virus have all the data on it and the files it has infected, but not sure what to do without the Norton program operational. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? Feel free to post or PM me...thanks :(

Beast, do you have a bootable copy of Norton AV on a floppy or CD-ROM? If so, you can boot from the CD or floppy and run the program to clean off your hard drive(s). You might try PMing SmokinTone, he may have some ideas. He's a computer tech, I'm just a lowly programmer who doesn't do Windows(tm). :) If I come up with any ideas I'll let you know.

I have a back-up disk for Norton. I can't un-isntall the program...it won't un-install. Can I 'DELETE" it???

Yes, you can try deleting it and then re-installing or you can re-install right over the top of the existing one, but it would be better to boot from something that you know isn't infected. If the Norton CD is bootable, then you can boot from that and try to disinfect your hard drive with Norton.

I re-installed it over the existing...it worked. I believe I took care of this booger...atleast I hope so. Thanks for the info!!!!! :D

Not a problem, glad you got it straightened out. Now, I think it's time for that father-beast talk about safe computing. :)

Crikey, sorry I missed this one, but all I could have suggested is what FT had already done. Only other thing I'd suggest you doing is making a bootdisk with Norton, that way if it happens again, you'll at least be able to get in there.

Glad to hear you've got it under control Bruddah Beast! Whew! Geez... this is a good lesson for me to update my bootdisk... I guess you'll never know when you'll need it!

Aloha,

Wade
